Solar Oven hot dog cooker

A reflective hot dog cooker can be built from a cardboard box, tin foil, and posterboard. Sunlight hits the reflective surface and focuses on the hot dog held in the center. Students can work in pairs or individually if there are enough materials.

I made one of these today. Dd is five and tried to help, but five is too young for this project - at least to make the cooker. We'll see about the actual cooking of the hot dogs.

What a neat project! My 7 (almost 8) year old will love to do this! I think his 5 year old sister will enjoy helping him too. Thanks!

Re: Solar Oven hot dog cooker

Cool project for the kids!

You can actually make a large solar oven to cook meals in just like your regular oven. I had thought about making one, but with the puppies still in the yard, I don't think we would get much food - I'm sure they would eat it! LOL! But I have the plans saved on my computer. This was you can still cook without heating up your house. An alternative to a crockpot and it doesn't use any electricity!
