Soon to have a toddler around

Most of you have read that my neice and nephew will (hopefully) be coming to live with me - at least for a while. It's been a while since I had a toddler around, especially a boy toddler. Maybe some of you can bring me up to speed on what to be prepared for. I know I have probably forgotten everything!

Re: Soon to have a toddler around

Imagine a tornado, a hurricane and an earthquake in your home AT THE SAME TIME with big blue eyes saying 'I love you'.

I am told that Stephen does not take naps anymore. I feel sorry for me already!

Kieran doesn't think he needs to but as soon as he stopped talking to me about getting up and going back outside, he was out cold.

I have limited experience with boys, but my dd loves blocks. She will play with blocks or crayons for hours.

Re: Soon to have a toddler around

My youngest DS just turned 3 and is so much fun! He rarely takes naps but it's okay because he is such a self-entertainer. He loves to build things, loves cars, loves robots, loves to color, loves books and loves to play with his siblings. But he also loves to throw things and wrestle and climb and swing on doors by holding onto the door knobs and loves digging in the dirt and playing in water.

So just be prepared for anything as anything can happen!

Re: Soon to have a toddler around

Oh, no. Threes aren't fun. Two's are fun. Threes are terrible. Hence, terrible threes. But then they say 'I love you' and they aren't in trouble any more.

Re: Soon to have a toddler around

Drew has some Legos he is willing to give him, but I'm worried about little pieces with a 3yo. I will defintely get him some cars and action figures. We have tons of coloring books and crayons, so I'm good there. I just don't know what to do with a 3yo anymore! LOL! He got mad at me the last time he was here because I told him he no. He had had 2 glasses of milk and wasn't eating, so I told him no more milk until he ate. He had a hissy fit and refused to eat. Sorry to say, I refused to feel sorry for him. About an hour later he wanted ice cream with the girls and I said no again - not until he ate some dinner. Finally got him to eat 5 or 6 bites. I called it a victory and let him have some ice cream! But I surely had forgotten how stubborn they can be at that age!

Re: Soon to have a toddler around

Get used to saying no a whole heck of a lot...lol. My husband's aunt passed away this March and left behind a 2 year old and a 3 year old and they come and stay with DH's grandma and let me tell you I swear I forgot how busy they truly were until I had to chase that age group again. I had gotten used to the kids just listening to me and asking for what they wanted.
