Bird feeder side effect

An unexpected, quite pleasant side effect of my bird feeders is no more bees. We had a terrible bee/bumble bee problem before the feeders. Now, no more bees. I can now go outside without dodging bees. Hummingbirds are another story. I had no idea they were so friendly! Maybe a little too friendly.

I'm glad you found a solution to your problem! My mom's house is swarming with humming birds...

Re: Bird feeder side effect

When I got my hummingbird feeders I was afraid we would have more bees but we don't. I was quite surprised! I'm very glad though. I would rather dodge hummingbirds than bees.

The one thing hummingbird feeders do draw, though, are ants. I went out there yesterday afternoon to put more nectar in and there were ants on the feeder. Don't they know those hummingbirds can eat them?? Stupid ants

Re: Bird feeder side effect

I would LOVE to have some bees around here for my garden. But it's nice to know if I ever need to get rid of them, all I need to do is put up a bird feeder.

They only got rid of them around the porch where the feeders are. There are still plenty of bees elsewhere in the yard.

Love hummingbirds, love to watch them in IN out at the woods.
Glad you got rid of the bees.

Re: Bird feeder side effect

You are lucky. There is a serious bee shortage here in the US and it is badly affecting crops, especially home gardens. I had to hand pollinate some of my plants. Not difficult, but extremely tedious.
