LONDON (AFP) - The credits are rolling in Britain for the time-honoured cinematic tradition of munching popcorn at the movies -- a newspaper reported Sunday that increasing numbers of cinemas are banning it.

I hope he looked into it and did market research before banning the popcorn. Hope they don't start banning popcorn in the U.S. at the theaters. I don't think our society/culture in general would want that to happen. It's always good to find out what customers want (can you tell I'm in a marketing research mode...like I have been for the past few weeks? )

What's a movie without popcorn?

Hmm...they said it is because they have become health concsious. The popcorn itself isn't bad but it is what those theaters do to it that make it bad. All that butter and salt.

WORD! It's a tradition, they go hand in hand. I understand it can be messy when it comes to clean up though. Especially since people are more uncaring about their mess.

They don't really eat their popcorn they way we do, with salt and butter. They have tons of flavored popcorns in Great Britain, even at the theatres. But I still can't imagine a movie without it!

I agree popcorn goes with the whole thought of going to the movies, but we have been seeing a increase in the rate of obesity. And if one less fatty, artery clogging item is removed from your list of choices, then that would be doing more good than bad!

Yeah, they mentioned "sugar coated popcorn" in the article. Although it's doubtful that's a whole lot worse than the fake butter and salt topped kind we eat.

There's more than one way to pop a corn kernal. There is no need to drench popcorn in butter and salt nor to cook it in fatty grease. I eat 97% fat free popcorn all the time. Sodas and candy are just as bad, but they are not being banned. I would lot rather sweep up popcorn than clean up spilled sodas and scrape gum off seats.

I don't see Americans taking to the whole no popcorn thing. I can see the theaters switching to low fat oils though.
