My dd got grounded for the first time yesterday. I am interested to hear what tools parents of older kids use. Grounding? Loss of privledges?

i usually got grounded. my dad said i was grounded for a week but then my mom ended up letting me off after a few hours. when that didnt work for them i had to sit in a chair with no tv. Or he took the tv and radio out of my room. nothing left to do except clean.

I have grounded Hannah from her phone Twilight books and internet lately. For the smart mouth it is a q-tip of vinegar on the tongue.

Take away precious items. My parents use to remove stereo, tv from my room. Lately I've grounded Jimmy and taken away video games and television. If he still is getting in trouble I will then make him clean his room, sisters room, bathroom where ever needs it.

Right now it is loss of electronics-tv, video games, phones etc. Always seems to do the trick Good rule of thumb is to take away what is important to them.

Haley gets grounded ... usually from friends and going anywhere but once in a while it will be from a specific item. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. For example, she is grounded from having anyone at the house or doing anything with her friends right now ... I came home from work the other day to find her breaking the rules of her grounding so I made her come back to work with me and sit out back of the store for the last 3.5 hours of the day.
