Sex, drugs and rock n roll

Have you had "the talks" with your kids on sex and drugs? Do you hate their music?

I can tell my girls are going to be rap and hip hop fans. For the most part, I can't stand either of them. As for sex and drugs, well, we've started the drug talks already.

the best way is to talk with them about those things even before they get an idea from the outside, so they wouldn't be overwhelmed and too embarrassed to ask, especially the sex part.

We have talked with both of them and will continue to do so for a long, long time.

I'm pretty open when it comes to talking to Haley about sex, drugs, or whatever other subject comes up. I've never sat her down and given a serious lecture on it but she knows she can ask me questions (and does) and I answer her to the best of my ability.
The best one I've gotten so far was "What does pop her cherry mean?".

Oh and as far as her choices in music go, she has a pretty wide range of things she listens to ... some of it is tolerable to me and some isn't ... I don't dictate what she can listen to though.

I am by no means naive, but I dread it when Emily starts having these questions. I love the innocence both of my kids have right now.
When the time comes, we'll talk about all of these things openly.

Since our kids are about the same age, Tammy, let's hope that's a long time from now. My kids have already seen people drunk or doing drugs.

Re: Sex, drugs and rock n roll

my advice on the music would be to not say what they can an cant listen to. My father does not liek rap/pop music. Because i knew he didnt like it, thats all i would listen to. he would get so mad and tell me to turn it off or listen to something else. i would never listen to him. But when he finally stoped caring what i listened to i didnt really want to listen to it anymore. I dont even listen to rap anymore. Sometimes i think he thinks what i listen to now is worse. But its not.

Re: Sex, drugs and rock n roll

My little guy is only six but we have already talked about these things some. He knows that rap/hip hop is "naughty music" and we play classical music and uplifting music for him so he can appreciate good music. Hopefully that will keep him from listening to inappropriate music in the future. We talk about healthy stuff to put in your body and mind, and how unhealthy cigarettes and alcohol are, and he knows that he should treat girls as special and take care of them, so I am hoping he will keep these things in mind when he is older.

We openly discuss these things. I feel like my kids are comfortable talking to me about it, and we even makes jokes about some things.
