Re: Hurricane Gustav

Liz, the other site is back now.

Heather is in Tallahassee & Michelle went to Hattisburg, MS. Heather posted earlier that from what they have been told by people that stayed in NO, things are not too bad where they live.

Re: Hurricane Gustav

It sounded like the sugar producers were going to be hardest hit.

Re: Hurricane Gustav

Grace, since the eye was Terribone Parish where there are ALOT of sugar cane fields, I would guess that you are correct. I haven't heard anything about it, though.
My MIL/FIL and SIL/BIL live in Houma, we are concerned about their houses.

Re: Hurricane Gustav

I read an article while it was happening that said the industries and places which were going to be hurt the most were the sugar producers, the ports and the oil producers in the Gulf. I didn't know that most American grown sugar is from LA. It's an over $2 billion a year industry. The crops were just ready to be harvested when this happened and flooded their fields. I know what it's like to have the family's entire income for the year wrapped up in a crop and then loose it. Fortunately, my Dad had another job.

I'm glad you and your family are safe, Heather.
