ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- It generally has flowers, and a clergyman is often present, but this was a first for a local funeral home.

Re: Wedding enlivens funeral home

Interesting idea. Prob cheaper than a church, esp since he was the man in charge.

Funeral homes are quite nicely decorated. When you think about it, what the preacher said is true, corpses lay in churches in the same spot people get married too. Probably saved the happy couple a good bit of cash.

Re: Wedding enlivens funeral home

Actually, propping the corpse up is a very old tradition. If you look at a lot of those old west photos, the corpse is often standing. It's just not something that is much done anymore in our culture. As for having the corpse viewing in the family home, this was often done in the days before funeral parlors. If you think about it, churches were often multifunctional as the school, town hall, church, etc. They could not just be dedicated to church functions such as visitations and funerals.

Actually, I think it's a great idea! Most funeral homes are beautiful. and like he said, churches have plenty of funerals, so why not the other way around?
