Re: Good morning America interview with parents who have 6 children with autism

I have seen that before. Those parents are simply incredible! I can't imagine what they must have to deal with every day. I know I was shaking in my boots when we thought Drew might have Aspergers, so I can't imagine how they deal with 6 kids on the Autism Spectrum. 1 boy with ADD drives me batty most days!

Only someone that's been through some of the things they deal with will understand completely. The walls in the one bedroom? Been there. Notice the boy's overalls on backwards? Been there. The older child not potty trained? Been there as well.

It is frustrating. There's so much we could have used for Brandon when he was younger, but couldn't afford and the insurance wouldn't cover. I often wonder how much better he would be right now if we could have gotten him the help he needed years ago.

I really do think that services for kids with special needs should be available to everyone, not just those with insurance or money. We were lucky that our insurance paid for alot of Drew's therapy, but we couldn't afford alot of the things we wanted to do for him. It's just not fair to the kids.

Re: Good morning America interview with parents who have 6 children with autism

I just found out this week, my dd is not "disabled" enough to qualify for services through the public schools, because she is not delayed more than 50% in 2 or more areas. The State's cutting way back on funding for special needs kids. Supposedly, developmentally delayed kids will be the hardest hit, because they are considered a lost cause.

Lost cause? Not in a million years! They might need more hands on treatment, nut no kid is a lost cause! How could they even think something like that? I'll bet if one of the kids of the people who make those stupid laws was affected, you could guarantee that the laws would be changed super quick!
