Hurricane Ike...Florida and Gulf Coast residents.......

It looks like Cuba will be hit hard. I am wondering what Josephine will do as well. She's been upgraded to a Tropical Storm, but she has several days at sea to pick up strength.

Re: Hurricane Ike...Florida and Gulf Coast residents.......

Josephine has weakened and strengthened yet again. She bears watching.

The forecasters here are not really predicting anything as of yet. My best guess is that LA is going to be hit again. Unless Ike turns more westerly, the people of LA are going to be in for a really hard time. Spo many of them are still without power and they are already handing water, ice and emergency food supplies in Houma.

Here, we are being told to prepare for the worst, just in case. I will be going out later to stock up on water, propane and some canned goods. Other than that, I think we are in pretty good shape. If it does come towards us, Rick can't leave. He will have to go to the hospital because he is one of the leaders on the emergency decon team. That means he gets to do clean up in the Medical Center if it hits here. Last week they were talking about sending him and his team to LA to help out. Now they are waiting to see what Ike does. I will wait and see what happens before I decide if I need to take the kids and go to a friends house further north. I can have them packed and in the car in less than an hour if need be. But I doubt we will see much. We didn't even get any of the rain they predicted from Gustav.

Oh, and thanks for the link, Liz! Much easier to understand than the one I had been looking at!

No, it's not cheap. For my family of 4, for four days was around $800. Hotel, food, gas for a Yukon...

As of 1PM CST, Ike is headed just south of Galveston Bay. If you look at the link Liz provided, you will see a small inlet looking area just to the north of the projected path of the hurricane. That is Galveston Bay. I am between the Bay and the path (black line) of the hurricane. Time to get ready!
