So sad she had no one to turn to for her entire pregancy. I hope she gets the emotional and physical help she needs and that the baby finds a good new home. Obviously, his mother doesn't want him. Thank goodness for that principal and that he was so observant!

Re: Newborn Found Alive In School Trash Can

Glad he was found! Such a young age to be a mom. If she is that young and felt she had no other option, then I think CPS needs to check out her life as well. Children learn from mimicing ...

I think we need to rethink what we teach in schools, preaching abstinence just doesn't work when you don't have parental units who care enough to reinforce it at home.

Glad that the baby was found and is receiving treatment.

Because the child was left without care, police now consider the case a child abuse investigation and Child Protective Services is involved.
And so they should be, because the mother is a child obviously in need of help as well as the baby. Just how fat are the kids at her school that some one can go to full term and have nobody notice, did her parents, teachers (gym teachers esp) have their eyes shut for 6 months?

I'm so glad they found the Mum and sent her for help because if she hadn't removed the umbilical cord had she even delivered the placenta? And that poor young girl has obviously got a lot of learning and growing up to do. Hopefully they will give her help and not just punishment.

Re: Newborn Found Alive In School Trash Can

She does need a lot of help and so does the baby. I asked my OT what happens to these babies. She said they grow up with attachment disorder, PTSD, and vision problems. Being held and cuddled and that first eye contact is that important. I asked her if the baby born in the restroom during a hurricane was better off than this one. She said although bathroom baby might have some PTSD temporarily from the traumatic situtation surrounding his birth, he was much better off just because his parents were there and loving him. Poor trash can baby. I hope he wasn't in there for long before the principal found him. I hope that man gave that baby lots of good eye contact and snuggles.

I think that attachment disorder happens mostly to older children who have memories of their biological parents. Thankfully this little one will get a loving home early and will receive the love and care he needs.

Re: Newborn Found Alive In School Trash Can

That is so sad on so many different levels. How did her parents not know? I'm not naive enough to think 14 year olds don't have sex but goodness that is still to young! Ack...why do children have to rush to grow up

AND how could you not have noticed there was something wrong with the girl when she left the restroom? Wouldn't there have been blood?

I just have such a hard time with these stories. I mean how sad that she didn't know any other option. She needs help and her parents need to pay more attention. Unfortunately, I think this happens all to often anymore

Re: Newborn Found Alive In School Trash Can

yes i heard about that all over the news here. except they said the story kept changing. they said that she delivered in the nurse office.. so that the nurse knew about it.. the janior ended up finding it. some students said that they knew she was pregnant and the mother kept saying she was going to keep her baby. They didnt find her till late into the night. Theyre not sure weather she is going to be charged or not.

The School Board was saying that they just dont talk about Sex education or anything about having babies in the middle age schools because .. was never a thought that they should be over there having sex. Only high school. i cant believe how young these kids are having sex and getting pregnant.

Re: Newborn Found Alive In School Trash Can

Sadly, htis happens all too often. I can't believe that they don't "talk about it" at her middle school. They started talking about this stuff when Drew was in 5th grade - elementary school.
