My son Isaiah is now 8 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night. He takes naps throughout the day but no longer than 30 minutes. At night he sleeps well only if we have him in our bed and never in his crib. Because of that we don't sleep well at all. We have tried letting him cry it out but are not fans of doing so. He is perfectly healthy and has never even had a cold. He will sleep on my chest or with his Mother but the second we put him in his crib he wakes up and starts to cry. I don't know what to try or do and it causes problem between my wife and I because we are both tired and need sleep. Please help with any tips or experiences you may have that can help.

Re: We need sleep!!! Please Help!!!
Do you have a cosleeper? You could transistion him from having to sleep literally on top of you to beside you and eventually to his own room, if you don't want to CIO. I tried everything under the sun to get my kids to sleep a normal amount of time and none of it worked. Some kids just have sevre sleep issues. However, before you jump to this conculsion, I would try some of the suggestions you get here or here are some articles on sleep training:Attachment parenting approach -

Re: We need sleep!!! Please Help!!!
Have you ruled out any medical issues with your pediatrician? My kiddos had horrible reflux and would not sleep anywhere except on my chest or my husband's while we were sitting upright with them either on the couch or in the glider.THe other girls had great suggestions, but make sure there isn't a medical issue.

Re: We need sleep!!! Please Help!!!
Ally (7) NEVER slept thru the night as a baby. In fact, she still doesn't sometimes. She was a baby that constantly wanted to be held and cuddled and swaddled. She was almost 2 before she actually slept thru the entire night. Now, I say this not to scare you, but because some kids are just that way. To this day, she rarely sleeps more than 8 hours. She had GERD (reflux) for about the first 6 months and once that cleared up, we thought she would begin sleeping more, but she didn't. I found that the only way I coul cope was to sleep when she did. Then DH would come home, take over and I would get a couple of solid hours of sleep. Then he went to bed and I took over again. It does get better, slowly but surely, but it can take time. But before you do anything else, I would talk to your pediatrician about it to rule out any medical problems.
