Re: Jolie breast-feeding photo: triumph or trouble?
This article is likely to cause a debate.

First off, I contend that Angelina Jolie set herself up as a role model mom when she adopted those kids from third world countries. This is just a continuation of a path she was already on. Angelina enjoys controversy about surrounding her personal life and this is just an extention of that.
What it is not is a condemnation against people who do not breastfeed. The article did not say anything like that and she herself has not said anything like that. So why add that unhappiness to it?
Infanthood is such a small part of a child's life to receive so much attention. Two hundred years ago before formula was invented, all women breastfed or had wet nurses if they were wealthy. Mothers who could not breastfed and not wealthy (or were deceased) had to resort to feeding their babies unpasturized goat (normally) or cow's milk. This was not a good or safe nutritional alternative, thus the development of forumla which is all these things.
My point is even when almost all mothers breastfed, there where horrible mothers who abused their kids terribly. Breastfeeding doesn't magically prevent all forms of child abuse. It's just another way to feed a baby.
