LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A magazine cover photo of Angelina Jolie breast-feeding one of her newborn twins may have turned the superstar actress into a role model for new mothers.

Re: Jolie breast-feeding photo: triumph or trouble?

This article is likely to cause a debate.

First off, I contend that Angelina Jolie set herself up as a role model mom when she adopted those kids from third world countries. This is just a continuation of a path she was already on. Angelina enjoys controversy about surrounding her personal life and this is just an extention of that.

What it is not is a condemnation against people who do not breastfeed. The article did not say anything like that and she herself has not said anything like that. So why add that unhappiness to it?

Infanthood is such a small part of a child's life to receive so much attention. Two hundred years ago before formula was invented, all women breastfed or had wet nurses if they were wealthy. Mothers who could not breastfed and not wealthy (or were deceased) had to resort to feeding their babies unpasturized goat (normally) or cow's milk. This was not a good or safe nutritional alternative, thus the development of forumla which is all these things.

My point is even when almost all mothers breastfed, there where horrible mothers who abused their kids terribly. Breastfeeding doesn't magically prevent all forms of child abuse. It's just another way to feed a baby.

I seen the picture and think is it a beautiful picture. She looks gorgeous sitting there feeding her baby. I dont understand why people have issues with it.

So with you Liz. So with you.

No, it didn't. The reader comments afterward were concerning. I should have made that clear. There were some people getting offended like Angelina and all breastfeeding moms were out to get them. It seems like whenever a picture of a star breastfeeding pops up, some people say it is a critism of bottle feeding mothers, when all it is is a pic of a mom feeding her baby. I didn't see any comments critizing bottle feeding moms, but some were offended as if there had been.

Too true, Liz!

Actually, I thought Suri was breastfed for awhile. With her parents' crazy lifestyle and both of them working so much, it is probably a good thing she had a bottle. I didn't see the photo.

Now, here's a fact, Angelina may have breastfed the youngest three, but she sure didn't the older children. So she is a both mom, too.

Suri Cruise is STILL sucking on a bottle and she turned 2 in April or May...

Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about Angelina and that picture. I thought it was a wonderful pic! And if it promotes BF, great! If it doesn't, that's fine too. People are always going to pick apart whatever celebs do just because they can.

She can suck on a bottle if she needs to. If Tom Cruise were my dad, I'd need something a little stronger than milk in my bottle.

Celebs always have a reason to be an object of publicity, if they are doing something good or bad
