Having homework problems again

Haley brought home her progress report and I'm so disappointed.
She's got A's in her electives but her grades in all her other classes are failing ... 2 F's and a D. The notes say "does not turn in required work". *sigh* This has always been a battle with Haley but last year I had the option of putting her in after school care where she had some amount of instruction and guidance that at least got her sitting down and working on her homework every day. This year the only option was latch key. She gets home around 3 and has 5 hours at the house before I get home ... most days she says she did her homework and even has stuff scattered around but her grades aren't reflecting that she is turning it in. I'm so frustrated and have set up a parent teacher conference because I feel like I'm at the end of my rope. She's already lost her cell phone and her priviledge of having friends over or going to a friends after school.

Re: Having homework problems again

I know you've probably done it before, but what about having her right her assignements in an agenda or planner and having each teacher initial it before she leaves school, then, you initial it when you see it done?
I had a problem with Logan, he would do his homework, but he just would never turn it in (last year). I never understood him doing all the work but choosing to never get the credit for it.

Good luck,

Same thing here with Brittany, but d was the worst. The 3 subjects she is not doing well in have to come home daily whether she has homework or not. I bought her a trapper keeper and all notebooks and folders go in there.

So far so good going on 3 weeks. The final test will be report card time.

Re: Having homework problems again

I've had this problem with Drew for the past several years. It's why he keeps failing. Even if he does the work in class, his homework is such a huge part of his grade that he would have to get 100's on everything else for it not to affect his final grade. Nothing has worked. I wish you luck. i just told him that if this keeps up, when he turns 16 he is getting his GED and getting a job. We'll see how much he likes working instead of going to school.
