Secret Service visits Lufkin woman after 'death threat' allegation from Obama campaign volunteer

Below is what the woman had to say. But here is the actual news article:

http://www.dailysentinel.com/news/co...vice_1007.html

On Wednesday the 1st of October I received a call on my cell while in the car with my husband. It was a woman who identified herself as calling from the Obama Campaign. The phone # she called from was 903-798-6020 which lists as 'Obama Volunteers of Texarkana' (Texas).

She asked if I was an Obama supporter to which I replied:

'No, I don't support him, your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the State Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time.' I hung up.

Thursday, October 2, I answered the front door to find the Secret Service. Immediately I thought of the call and was furious that apparently you are not allowed to call Obama a Socialist without the Secret Service coming to investigate. Instead, they asked me about the following comment, relayed by the Obama Volunteer of Texarkana who called me, unsolicited on my cell phone:

'I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.'

My husband laughed and told them No, she called him a socialist but she never said a word about him dying. I gave them my actual quote. The woman asked insolently Oh? Well why would she make that up?

I replied that I supposed she wasn't happy about what I said about her candidate and the Agent said Thats right, you were rude The last time I checked being rude wasn't a crime in America.

Luckily the big file they had gathered on me didn't indicate mental instability or a past life of stalking/crime, however they did want to know how I felt about Obama. That was my limit. I told the Agent in no uncertain terms that my thoughts were not pertinent to their investigation, that this was America and the last time I checked I was allowed to think whatever I wanted without being questioned by the Secret Service. In fact, even if I had said what she claimed, that isn't a threat. I told them (again) and my husband verified that the statement reported by Obama's volunteer was a lie. I asked them if there was a tape of the call and they said no. I said, 'So on the word of a ticked off Obama supporter you are on my porch with no other evidence and you want to question me about my THOUGHTS!?'

They informed me that there was no evidence she was an Obama supporter…someone calling from his campaign''are you kidding?

I was not allowed to know the name of my accuser at which point they informed me that it wasn't like I was in a court of law, YET, as if this was a good thing. I recognized this as a veiled threat. I told them I would happily go to court since I did nothing wrong and at least then my accuser would have to face me rather than sending the thought police to my house.

They then said they were trying to do me a favor, that they came to me first before embarrassing you by going to all your neighbors and family, another th reat? I told them to be my guest and talk to whomever they wanted but they weren't going to investigate my thoughts on my porch.

They also informed me that it would be easier if the next time a supporter calls me I just say 'Yeah sure count me in, or just hang up' apparently so she won't get her undies in a bundle and give them more useless trips. Yeah right. I said 'Look, someone calls me unsolicited on my cell phone to ask me to support their candidate and I can't tell them why I don't?' I said I was sorry they made a wasted trip but if they had a problem with some made up lie they needed to go talk to her about it because it wasn't my fault they had to drive from Houston for nothing.

At one point I went inside and got a notepad to record their badge numbers and they refused to show me their badges. They had done the quick flip when they arrived. I asked for a card and the female Agent refused to give me one stating You're not going to get a card. The male Agent gave me a card and told me I could contact Houston with any questions.

The fact that the volunteer lied, the fact that the Secret Service came to my house to question me about my thoughts and feelings and threaten to embarrass me to my neighbors and go to court if I didn't cooperate is not really the tragedy here. Bec ause that girl on the phone doesn’t have the pull to send the Secret Service to my home. Someone high in the ranks of a campaign working for a man who may be the next President of the United States of America felt comfortable bringing the force of the Federal Government to bear on a private citizen on nothing but the word of a partisan volunteer.

I want to file a counter complaint that false charges were made, that a false report was given to a peace officer. The Secret Service told me I cannot because they will protect the identity of the complainant. I also want the file they have on me destroyed and I want to know that my phone isn't tapped, etcetera. I am hearing a lot of Out of my Jurisdiction.

Do I also hear jackboots?

Unfortunately, the volunteer was in the right. I know this from my time as a peaceful protestor to the Afganistan War. Several of my friends were herded in and questioned intensely by the FBI for less than this. It is illegal to make a threat against the president or someone running for president or probably anyone for that matter even if the speaker didn't mean it. It's her word against the volunteer's. There have been a number of threats against Obama. Each one has to be investigated like it or not. My friends did not like being rounded up by the FBI for peacefully marching against the War with a permit and advanced planning with the local government either. I had my phone and email bugged for about two years after my protest efforts. So like it or not, the woman is in the wrong. Perhaps it is not fair, but there it is.

I don't understand your logic here at all. This woman is not in the wrong as she did nothing wrong. She did not make the call and she did not say anything threatening in any way. She simply stated her opinion. I can understand you saying the volunteer's claim had to be checked out but to say this woman was in the wrong? No way!

Re: Secret Service visits Lufkin woman after 'death threat' allegation from Obama cam

According to the law, she is in the wrong. It's not a matter of innocent or not. According to this volunteer, she made the threat. Whether she did or not is immaterial. The Secret Service believes that she did. Since she has not been charged with a crime and is not before a court of law, she wasn't slandered, so she really has no claim to anything other than a little harassment. And the police are allowed to talk to whomever they like especially if that person has communicated a threat.

In the future, she should watch her p's and q's, because now she has drawn unwanted attention, this attention will continue. Her opinion of Obama is bad. Now, the Secret Service has a bad impression of her. Their opinion isn't illegal either.

When you deal with such a high profile government official or their workers, it is always wise not to use any words like "dead" or "kill" in a negative way towards them, because it can be taken the wrong way or out of context. Yes, we have freedom of speech. She could have called him by any racial slur she liked, but the wording of her speech was considered threatening and it is not legal to make threats.

Re: Secret Service visits Lufkin woman after 'death threat' allegation from Obama cam

What I am basically saying is, it doesn't matter what you and I or anyone on this site or in this country thinks, it matters what the Secret Service thinks. And they seem to think she did it. I am sure there are a lot of white supremists ubber racists out there who are making threats galore against Obama. These super crazy, racists may actually plot out and try to kill him.

All the Secret Service sees is a white woman who hates Obama and one of his volunteers said she made a threat against him. They don't know her from Adam. All they know is some white woman (who could possibly be in the KKK for all they know) may have made a threat against a presidental candidate who is most likely getting a lot of threats everyday. Then she gets biligerent with them (and it's easy to tick off cops these days) and what are they to think. They think, we need to do something about this person.

She's not jail and she got her free speech. Now, she's got the consequences. The consequences are the Secret Service consider her a person of interest. Just because we have free speech doesn't mean all speech has no consequences.

Re: Secret Service visits Lufkin woman after 'death threat' allegation from Obama cam

WRONG, WRONG WRONG! She neither DID or SAID anything that should have the Secret Service interested in her.

First off, SHE was contacted (unsolicited) on her cell phone (which BTW, ALL cell numbers are UNLISTED unless the owner specifically ASKS for the number to be listed - and they have to PAY to have it listed). So there is the first strike.

Second, she NEVER threatened Omaba. She simply stated FACT. (Yes, he did vote for that particular bill).

Third, ALL call during political compaigns are SUPPOSED to be monitored. This does not mean they are all recorded, just that they are supposed to be monitored. IF the calls had been monitored as they are supposed to be, then there would be a record of what the woman actually said. Of course that is assuming that the person monitoring the call actually was truthful about what they heard. Considering the fact that the person monitoring the calls was more than likely also an Obama supporter, I find none of this surprising.

What I DO find surprising is that the Secret Service was called in on this at all. Please! Don't you think that they would be doing background checks before they bothered to send someone out to talk to this person?

I always knew that I didn't trust the people runing his campaing, but this is just nutso! No, I don't thin he had anyting to do with it. Hell, I seriously doubt he has even heard about it. But I want you to know that it is all over the news casts in these parts. Not that Obama is highly popular in TX anyway, but this certainly isn't going to help his campaign.
