Hi Kim
I got out of hospital last week after a 12 day stay, went in on wed night with DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) 4 days after a mild (6 hrs) dose of gastro to get some help stabalising my blood sugars which were going from 32+ down to 2.1 (576 to 37.8) and back again and to get the ketones to go away. Sunday night I suddenly came down with crippling stomach pains. Great fun when they are trying to replace your drip site. I had managed to catch the gastro outbreak going on in the hospital (they had one whole ward down with it) at the same time I had an even sharper pain low on my right side heading towards my groin.
For the next 3 days I was in acute discomfort and the medical staff were insistant that it was appendacitis and the surgical staff insisting it was not. After 3 days it didn't matter who was right as the pain started to go away and by the 4th day was gone (the gastro went away 36 hrs later)
Is it possible for your appendix to get inflamed for 3 days and then settle down again? Can gastro imitate appendacitis pain? and more importantly, if yes, can the darn thing come back again?
PS: My brothers appendix burst when he was 33 he was already in hospital with the pain, and had been training for the National Rock and Roll champs which included 2 hrs a day at the gym (for the last 3 mnths), which the dr's said saved his life (Him being in superb pysical condition).
