I think you guys call it Rolled Oats? or maybe just Oats? I grow up with 3 grandparents who came out from Scotland and as it is a scottish dish we called it porridge, the only difference to the following recipe is that we made it with about 1/4 tsp of salt. I know a couple who have it with a knob of butter
and milk, which just seems very peculiar to me. Altho I have read about it being put in a loaf pan and when 'set' IE cold and solidified, they would slice it like bread and fry it up and have it with butter and salt, but that was in the 1800's and I guess they used it instead of bread.
Think of Goldilocks and the three bears
Porridge
Serving size: Serves 2
Cuisine type: British/Scottish/Irish
Cooking time: Less than 15 minutes
Course: Breakfast
INGREDIENTS
1ΒΌ cups oatmeal
2 cups milk
pinch of salt
2 teaspoons sugar
maple syrup, honey or brown sugar, to serve
cream to serve
Of course as a diabetic I use water not milk (altho sometimes I do use half water and half low fat milk, it is much more creamy that way) and I use sweetner instead of sugar, syrup and cream, but I remember when we were kids having it with cream or brown sugar my Mum wouldn't let us have both as it would be to rich, I hate to admit it but I think she was right
