Hi All I've already written about my last few weeks ill health in my journal (and the appendicitus question here in "Ask a Nurse") but just a brief recap.
Two weeks in hospital with diabetes complication, the last week in quarintine with gastro.
10 days feeling miserable after experiencing an allergy to new medication, and itcing and a rash don't sound like much, trust me the lack of sleep can drive you nuts. Both the allergy and the steriods to stop it cause really high blood sugars.
Blood sugars are almost under control, I'm now only on 5% extra insulan (I'm self adjusting going by blood sugar results taken 5-7 times a day)
My main problem now is that having spent the best part of the last 5 weeks in bed or on the couch, I am exausted simply getting up, I'm having 2 3 hr naps a day and then sleeping the night away as well.
I'm still very nauseus most of time from the sugars altho the vomiting stopped a couple of days ago.
I seem to be totally 'deconditionsed' (if that is even a word
) how do I get myself back into any sort of shape? Two days ago I felt pretty good so I did all sorts of housework and shopping and have felt like a truck hit me ever since.
Obviously I did too much too fast, What I need to know is how much is enough and how often. I'm not talking about an exercise programme here, I'm talking basic being able to cook dinner without having to take a sit down rest every 10 minutes. Being able to fold a basket of washing without falling asleep half way thru sitting on the couch.
The longer I take to get back to normal the harder it is going to be, but I don't know where to even start.
Any body out there been thru this (I'm thinking Elaine must have felt similar at times) or know someone or helped someone recuperate from a few weeks illness??
Can you give me some pointers please.
