What do y'all get for your kids' teachers?
I really want to stay away from candy, bath sets, and candles. Any ideas?

Re: Teacher Gifts

Gift cards! I would never have thought of it, I don't think, except that I had a parent give me a gift card one year, and I loved it. And you are right, teachers get enough candles, lotion and bath products, candy, note pads, and apple stuff. Most of that stuff I just donated or gave away to anyone else who wanted it. I try to buy Emily's teachers gift cards to places they like. One year she had a teacher who loved Starbucks, so I bought her a travel mug (from Starbucks) and put a Starbucks gift card inside it. I have done car wash gift cards (that was for end of the year gifts--and we always have watering restrictions, so no one can wash their cars at home), restaurant gc, hair salon gc (small town, we know where people get their hair done), retail store gc, and this year I think I am going to do Visa gift cards for her teachers.

Re: Teacher Gifts

The Twins are in seperate classes this year, each class has a teacher and an assistant, so that is 4 gifts. I had thought of a Starbucks GC for one, (because I know she loves coffee almost as much as I do) but didn't think of buying her a mug to put the GC in. Thanks!
I think I am going to go with the GC idea for all of them. That's simple and they will probably use it instead of having it sit in a closet all year.

Re: Teacher Gifts

Last year I purchased socks and filled them with Hersey chocolate. Placed in a nice gift bag!

SOCKS!!! LOL I know that sounds corny but I love cushie warm socks and such things that after work I can throw on and be comfy warm in.

I've also purchased ornaments for teachers as well. I don't really do the traditional teacher gift just things that I would like.

Re: Teacher Gifts

The year I did the Starbucks GC, I also did ornaments. I tried to match them up with the teachers' personality or what they liked rather than doing the standard, "World's Best Teacher" thing.
I love the sock idea!

Re: Teacher Gifts

Tammy, as a teacher, what do you think about things for the classroom? Like books, supplies, etc.? That's what I've done before, along with home baked goodies. This year I'm thinking of doing a "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" book for my DD's kindergarten teachers - she'll color the animals and then I'll use a picture of her teachers for the teacher and a picture of the class for the children. Then take it somewhere to be bound. What do you think?

Re: Teacher Gifts

Lauren's teachers have already asked that we not give gifts b/c they didn't want to add to our expenses.

I order the book for the class option on the Scholastic Book forms. I also made a bunch of play dough for the class.

Great! Now I just have to take a few pictures and actually get this done!

Re: Teacher Gifts

I am making up spice, dip and cookie mixes for them. Putting them all in a nice basket (found at the dollar store) and having Ally write her a nice note.
