What do you think?

Gavan Joshua Or Gavan Earnest ( don't ask... ) haven't decided yet on the middle name for a boy, want to name him after my grandfather but the poor man's name was.. Earnest Dewey

and
Islan Joyce

Islan is pronounced.. eeess lan

Joyce is not my favorite name for a middle name, but I want to honor my aunt who died two years ago of Ovarian Cancer, her name was Joyce.
So it would be either Islan Joyce or Islan Jo Or maybe I could shorten it to Islan Joy.

Re: What do you think?

I like Islan Joy (I'm guessing that's your girl name). But my middle name is Joy so I'm partial to it I like Gavan Joshua better, but naming him after your grandfather would be worth the Earnest

Re: What do you think?

I like your choices. And seriouslly - how often do we use our middle names? The only time I used mine was HS Graduation and when I got married. I think its wonderful that you want to name them after relatives. We went the other route - we didn't want ANY family name.

Re: What do you think?

I use mine everyday. Of course, I have a great middle name and I was named after a wonderful woman.

Re: What do you think?

All but Kyan are named after family.
Duncan Charles Thomas - Charles after my grandfather and Thomas is a family name for George
Logan Michael - Michael for George's brother and the arch angel and my uncle.
Ian David, - David is after my paternal grandfather it was either David or Clyde...
Kyan Justice - not after anyone
Teagan James Franklin - James after my father, Franklin after my stepdad

Thank you all I was afraid people would HATE the name Islan.

Re: What do you think?

I still claim that James for Jimmy too
No seriously,
I like Islan Joy for a girl and
Gavan Ernest for a boy... not because I like Earnest but because it's a family name, and that's important. You could also try Gavan Dewey Rix though if you really hate Earnest.

Re: What do you think?

I went to middle school with a girl named Islan ... it's not exactly a favorite but I don't dislike it either. Joy would be my first choice for middle names.

Re: What do you think?

Now to convince George that he really does like the name Islan And trust me, I will.

I actually think we may be going with Gavan Earnest. If.. again.. I can talk George into it.

Though I am only 14 weeks right now, all of this could change in the next 26 weeks lol.
Thank you for your input ladies.

Re: What do you think?

If you don't really feel thrilled with Joyce or Joy, what about Jocelyn? It's a form of Joyce, but not sure how well it goes with Islan.

Re: What do you think?

I don't like Islan Joycelyn... I like Joy I think, and I was wrong, my Great Grandfather's name was Jonathan Dewey, my grandfather's name was Earnest Thomas. So.. I think we will go with Gavan Jonathan

Re: What do you think?

I would wanna suggest Gavin Earnest for the little boy, instead of Gavan Earnest. Islan Joyce is a beautiful name and it doesn't sound too common as long as the name "Joyce" wouldn't be left out. Common names are usually misinterpreted because a lot of girls are named like that.

Re: What do you think?

Thank you Eliza, however, whatever we decide to name a boy or girl, would end in "an" ( we already have DuncAN, LogAN, IAN, KyAN and TeagAN) and I like Gavan spelled that way but thank you for the advice!

As far as Joyce goes, I've spoken with my mother about it and she is fine with me using Joy instead of Joyce, even suggested just using Jo, since that's what we all called her.
