Ever wondered why they call it "Black Friday"? Here's the answer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_(shopping)

Re: Origins of the name Black Friday

I don't know what is going on with wikipedia but that link takes you to "that link has been deleted page" because the search comes up as "Black Friday (shopping"

However if you go to the search box on the left hand side and enter "Black Friday (shopping) then it will take you to the correct page.

I copied and pasted the web address from the website but the same thing happens when you open the link "deleted article" page. So something is obviously out of whack at the Wikipedia side of things.

PS: In NZ and Australia Black Friday refers to any Friday the 13th, nothing to do with shopping at all simply that friday is supposedly the unluckiest day of the week and having the 13th turn up as well just means you should stay hame and not even get out of bed

Re: Origins of the name Black Friday

Doesn't it refer to being "in the black" as far as profits go? Just like "in the red" means losses? Heck, I don't know anymore.
