Weight Gain

Just curious to know what people have gained during there pregnancies. I know what the books say to gain but I have had so many friends with my body type that have gained between 40 - 50lbs! I was very slim before pregnancy, (size 24 or 26 jeans) but I have gained SO much weight and I am not eating a lot of junk food. I am 21 1/2 weeks pregnant and I have already put on 20 lbs! Anyone else out there like me with the weight gain?

Re: Weight Gain

I gained about 10-15 lbs both times. I was heavy already, so I worked really hard not to gain much. I only gained 10 lbs during my last pregnancy and my dr was on my butt. He was a total jerk though. I don't think you are out of the range of normal.

Re: Weight Gain

I don't know how much weight I've gained, but I can wear most of my clothes still. I've had to buy new pants and underwear, but most of my skirts still fit. I'm 20 weeks.

I'm not going to know how much I weigh until the end of my pregnancy. My midwife is not concerned about my weight gain and she doesn't see the need to weigh me every month. I totally agree. I told her I didn't want to know until the 8th or 9th month.

Re: Weight Gain

OH, I gained 49 with my first born, Jimmy. I gained 35 pounds with Jaedyn. Jimmy was full term and Jaedyn was 3 weeks early.

Re: Weight Gain

I was already overweight with both pregnancies, but I didn't really have to work all that hard not to gain a lot of weight. I had all day morning sickness (pretty bad) for the first three or four months with both pregnancies, and then had morning sickness off and on for another couple of months after that, and that caused me not to gain a lot of weight. With each pregnancy, I initially ate whatever I could tolerate, and as the morning sickness eased, I ate whatever I wanted, but I only gained around 35 pounds with each pregnancy.

Re: Weight Gain

With the twins I gained 29 pounds(lost it all in a couple of weeks).
The two pregnancies before that were under 20 pounds(lost all of it in a couple of weeks).

I think a 30 pound total weight gain is normal if you started at a healthy weight. If you started under weight then you can gain a littler more. If you start over weight then you should gain less.

Re: Weight Gain

I lost 5 pounds then gained 21 with Drew. I watched everything I ate with my first pregnancy - anal doesn't even begin to describe it. I was overweight to start with and was worried about gaining too much.

I was even heavier with Ally, but only gained 7.5 pounds with her. No matter what I ate, i just couldn't gain any weight - and I ate like a frickin horse, let me tell you!

As long as your doctor is happy, I wouldn't worry about it. Every person and pregnancy is different.
