what are some of your best Christmas/holiday memories? What traditions have you carried down from your childhood into your own family traditions now?

Re: Best holiday memories?

Some of my favorite childhood Christmas memories are of my sister and I 'performing' little songs and skits for my parents.
I also remember one particular Christmas when I didn't see hardly any gifts for me under the tree from Santa and then discovering a HUGE box with MY name on it hidden behind the love seat. It was a stereo--you know, the big ones with the record player and duel casset deck so you could tape stuff? Man was I excited!LOL!
Also, on Christmas eve we dress really nice and eat finger foods, talk, and open one gift. We still do this one today with my own children. Then on Christmas day we generally wear our pj's.

Re: Best holiday memories?

i just remember getting up early and waking mom up... sometimes she would just let us open one present and then quietly play with it for a while... We also usually were allowed to open one present Christmas Eve. I also remember being so excited when my grandma would bring our presents.

I think we're going to let the boys open one present on Christmas Eve this year...

Re: Best holiday memories?

We've never done the "opening a gift on Christmas eve" thing. My favorite memory of Christmas is just the excitement of the night before ... all of us kids (my cousins, siblings, and myself) hanging out in one room and trying so hard to fall asleep.

Re: Best holiday memories?

My mom always bought me a dress up something and one year it was a nurses outfit. I always purchase something for my kids to dress up in and then take their picture. She has a picture of me in the nurses outfit eating french toast sprinkled with powdered sugar. It's such a sweet memory of my childhood.

Re: Best holiday memories?

My mom always made spaghetti on Xmas eve becasue it was quick and easy. We do lasagna and a salad (I get sick of spaghetti! LOL!)

The kids get to open one gift, but it's always pj's! I want them to look nice for the pics on Xmas morning. My mom never did this, and I'm not sure how we started it, but it's become a tradition around here.

One tradition is that it is a fmily thing to decorate the tree and the house. When I was growing up, Santa did the tree.

Re: Best holiday memories?

I remember that one of my holiday memories is being bedridden while it's Christmas Day, the day after my birthday. We've got a lot of food in our table, we are complete in our house and I received gifts too. The problem is I can't get up to greet and eat with them.
