1st trip to L & D

I woke up Friday morning b/c I was having contractions! No pain accompanied them and I wasn't worried b/c I felt Ava moving around and kicking so I just knew she was okay. I called my OB's office as soon as they opened and they told me to go to the hospital to the L&D department just incase... so on I went.

Hubby & I had a trip full of follies! There was a TON of construction and we couldn't get to the hospital as we normally would have been able to, so we found an alternate route! I have never been to the L&D department so it took 2 tries to get to the correct entrance. We got up there and realized that we never registered so hubby went to do that! Of course once we were there in the L&D department a nurse took me immediately to a bed and they were WONDERFUL! She even had someone come up to my bed so we could register, of course by that time hubby had already gone to register.

Everything was fine, I was hooked up to a fetal monitor and a contraction monitor. I had a pee test to make sure I didn't have a urinary tract infection which I guess can cause you to contract? I didn't have any contractions while I was there and haven't felt any since. No urinary tract infection, yay! Ava was great, active as always. So, I think that I was having BH!

Even though it was a little scary to have to go to L&D, that was the only time I was nervous, I am so happy that hubby & I had a good dry run! Now we know a little more about the ropes and I feel good at how quickly and kindly I was attended to by the staff. We found out that the hospital will still be having construction going on when I deliver so we now know the best way to get into the hospital too, not to mention know exactly how to get to L&D.

I think that we are having a tour of the facilities too when I am 28 weeks. I am so glad that everything was okay.

Good to hear everything is ok and it just ended up as a dry run.

Which reminds me I still need to send in my registration. The end is nearing!

Thanks everyone!

Grace, I think that it was Braxton Hicks... in a way it was great b/c now I have an understanding, though basic, of what contractions feel like. So even though it wasn't accompanied by pain it makes it a little less scary! I am not looking forward to having the BH contractions later on in my pregnancy, how can anyone tell if contractions are real or not? Grrrrrrrr, lol!

Braxton Hicks are irregular and stop. True contractions come at regular intervals and do not stop. Braxton Hicks can be painful though.

Glad to hear that all is well! Having a dry run is a good thing, so know you know where everything is!

Re: 1st trip to L & D

Glad to hear everything went well..

I went to the L&D place on base and I had a HORRIBLE experience. I went because I was dizzy, chest hurt, short of breath, and I had really bad pitting edema.

The lady at the front was barely understandable... my husband and I both couldn't understand a word she was saying! So after he asking me what was wrong the 1st time and me trying to catch my breath, she leaned over the counter and YELLED CAN I HELP YOU!!!!!!!!!

My hubby and I were just in shock. We both just looked at her for a second and responded quickly as to not get yelled at again.

So I am waiting in the waiting room... the nurse comes out asks what is wrong I tell her I am dizzy blah blah blah...she then ask me if I tried taking pain pills for it... I told her, I didn't think ibuprofen would make me not dizzy. LOL she rolled her eyes at me and took me to the back

After 6 hours of waiting found out Jerren Is healthy and doing great!!

well they wouldn't let us go home and by this time it was 1am.. I needed to go to work Monday morning... so with no doctor in site for the past 3 hours the hubby and I just left..

Sorry for thread hijacking...

Your just lucky that everyone was so nice...I hate military hospitals..

AC, I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience! Is this the same hospital that you are to deliver in?
