Miscarriages

Do miscarriages tend to happen much after 8weeks? Did you have a miscarriage after 8 weeks or know many people who have (aside from still births)? Just wondering cuz my girlfriend, Bonnie, is 10 weeks and she is petrified of miscarriage. She's never had one or anything (this is her second child) but she admitted to me that she has a horrible fear of miscarrying and I had told her that I thought that miscarriages after 8 weeks weren't that common...

Re: Miscarriages

I had my first miscarriage with the hubby before my 10 week appointment.

I was around 8-10 weeks.

Re: Miscarriages

I can't imagine how hard a miscarriage must be. ANY miscarriage is devestating but I would imagine that being 12weeks along would be really hard since your body has already gone through so many changes.
I have been really blessed and haven't had any documented miscarriages. I do think that I had one when I was around 17 though but it is so I won't tell ya why I think so. Luckily for me I didn't think that I was preggo so it wasn't really hard for me or anything like that-just shocking.
I did some searching on google and your risk of miscarriage after 8 weeks is something like only 3%. Most miscarriages do happen before 8 weeks.
I just know so many friends that are pregnant that I worry for them too, ya know? lol My sister had a TON of miscarriages before she got pregnant with Kaylei so I am sure that her pregnancy with Sam and now this baby must be nerve wracking the first trimester.

Re: Miscarriages

I never have but I can understand her fear. My mom, both my Grandmas & DH's mom all lost their first child at term. I have a fear everytime I am pregnant that I will lose one. I panic when I haven't felt them move at all. I'll send prayers that her pregnancy contimes well and it as uneventful as it should be.

Re: Miscarriages

I had one right at 10 weeks, but I was probably older than your friend and a Gulf War veteran. I hope your friend starts feeling more confident soon.

Re: Miscarriages

My fist MC was at 11 weeks 6 day, my second was 11 weeks 3 days. My aunt had one at almost 16 weeks. 3% rate seems a little low to me, but the chances do decrease drastically at 8 weeks with an established heartbeat. Coarse that didn't mean anything to me because my second MC I had had 2 US already and had the heart beating at 5 and a half weeks and at 7.5 weeks. I don't think I ever lost the fear till I was holding them in my arms.
I hope every thing goes smooth for her!

Re: Miscarriages

You can miscarry at any time during your pregnancy, but they are much more common during the first trimester. My cousin lost hers at 8 mothns and still had to carry it until they could induce labor. Very heartbreaking.

Re: Miscarriages

I had 2 miscarries after my first son, and it was horrible. Both the miscarriages happened in the sixth week. It was very traumatizing as my husband who has a desire for more children has completely lost hope in another child. He doesn't want to speak about us having children any more.
