bleeding gums and teething?

Logan is cutting his last two five year molars. the last few days his gums are bleeding when we brush. they are really tender when i attempted to floss

oh, he also has a couple of wiggly teeth that are starting to get ready to fall out.

overall, my question is... can teething cause bleeding gums? or could there be an underlying cause? should we get into the dr tomorrow?

Re: bleeding gums and teething?

It was a long time ago, but when I got my wisdom teeth in, they bled. They also hurt and itched pretty badly. I don't know if this is the same or not.

thanks Grace, he doesn't seem to be in much pain only when we brush and they bleed.

i keep thinking he is way to young for gingivitis or it feels like it anyhow

Re: bleeding gums and teething?

Ginvititis isn't super serious. I've had it many times. I always treat it with listerine and flossing. It always clears up in a few days. It sounds like you are on top it. If it itches, he could be scratching it which could cause it to bleed as well. I remember my wisdom teeth itched so bad trying to come in. In my case, they never did come in. I had them all removed when I was 18 and still in high school. I remember I grossed out my science class by bringing my carved out teeth.

Yes, Noah's gums were like raw meat when he cut his first set of molars. They were tore up from them coming in and him still eating. It was just tearing the gums. It does heal p fast. If you can you can have rinse with salt water and/or give tylenol if it bothers him.

If he wasn't so young, i'd tell you to try having him gargle with saltwater and peroxide, but you can't swallow peroxide - it can make you sick if you you get too much. have him rinse with warm salt water - it should help aolt!

ok, so you are all thinking teething too right? i won't stress too much. i have been having him gargle some horrible antiseptic mouthwash and he is surprisinly ok with it lol

Yup, I'd go with the mouth wash or the salt water. I know salt water sounds stupid but it actually helped when i had my wisdom teeth yanked a couple summers ago.
