I don't know how many remember about me posting about Logan's school. How they didn't want to skip him a grade because there were only going ot be two fourth grade classes and one was way too advanced for him and one was really not advanced enough for him and how there was a test at the end of third grade for Social Studies and how I was so mad that they couldn't just take him out for 45 mins once a week or twice to get him ready for this test. Well then I posted about how his last report card was all As.. not just As 99s and 100s except for one grade which was a 93. I am again ILL. Ok, so.. he's not advanced enough for this class they could have skipped him to.. BUT.. they will put him in that class for reading group ( because he was WAY too advanced for his own group) and this quarters report card was four 100s and two 99s. He is in the third grade, reading in a 4th grade reading group, but on a 10th grade reading level. He brought that one lower grade up to a 100! But.... he shouldn't have been skipped? He is in G&T which is ONE day a week, 45 at a time. The work they do is irrelevant to anything he's doing in class. UGH. And I don't know what to do. They said that if they didn't skip Duncan but he was proving too advanced, they would put him up a grade second semester. But we took him out of that school. Now.. what do I do about Logan? He is obviously not being challenged at ALL. I mean.. this stuff isn't even a second thought to him. Not the math or the science or any of it. The child doesn't have to open a book. If his grade didn't depend on some homework.. he wouldn't need to do it. He can pass the tests without studying. He listens really well in class and just.. does what he has to do. So do I leave him in the class he's in right now, the one he loves that has his best friend in it, at least til the end of the year? ( Only four more months anyway) and then talk about him skipping a grade? I am starting to HATE this school. The Principal hired her daughter to teach Kindergarten, her son to teach a grade, her husband to teach a grade and her daughter in law to be secretary. Too much family working together is NOT a good thing. We lost 5 really good teachers before this year started and one of them has taken a principal's position at a private virtual school. I may have to put him in there. I think we can swing one year with our tax return. With financial aid it would only be $100 a month not the normal $410.

Re: Frustrated
Sounds like he needs to be in Connections Academy too. My dd is homeschooled and will be virtual schooled next fall because she is advanced. Sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands.

Re: Frustrated
Is he in a public school right now? If he is, you can request in writing that he be academically tested. If that testing shows he is WAY above his level, then formally request in writing that he be placed in a higher grade starting next year. I would let him finish out this year in his current grade. Or there is always the option of having him join CA along with Duncan.

Re: Frustrated
Also, if this is a public school, can you complain to the school board about so many family emmebrs working together? That doesn't sound right!- Shona

Re: Frustrated
It is a public school.. but it is a Charter school. So basically the principal can do whatever she feels like doing. I have thought about bringing him home and putting him in CA except for one little thing. I would kill him

He and I are WAY too much alike to spend that much time together. If I could test it and see if we could do it.. that would be different. Maybe I can have him work on some of Duncan's old things and see how he does.
He has been tested. Scored WAY above average and all they did was put him in G&T.

Re: Frustrated
Just because it is a charter chool doesn't mean they don't have to abide by the same rules. I wouldn't worry about the nepotisim so much as the fact that they don'rt seem to care that he isn't even trying and he's flying thru the lessons. He NEEDS to be challenged! Talk to the school district psychologist and /or diagnostician. They are the ones that do the testing. they are also the ones who will ultimately recommend or not whether he be advanced a grade.- Shona

Re: Frustrated
Ok thanks I will. See we didn't have to go through all that with Duncan. His teacher suggested he skip, I suggested it, the principal agreed, so he skipped.

Re: Frustrated
Different school, different group of idiots to deal with!
It's obvious he needs MORE than what he is getting. How much you want to bet that he starts acting up when he gets bored? It's what I did in school until they finally put me in GT. If he's bored in GT, then he needs to move up a grade. It's taht simple!

Re: Frustrated
It's alot easier said than done here, with the Charter School. The don't have to follow the exact same rules. And that makes it hard. We have thought about taking them out and putting them in a regular public school.. but we really hate that idea, other than them being able to ride the bus LOL. George and I are still talking about what we are going to do and how we are going to handle this. He needs a lot more than he's getting nad he will get bored with school entirely and want to quit going. I don't want that to happen.

Re: Frustrated
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to regular public school is that with Logan being gifted, he'll be with the best of the best as far as peers go. That's one comfort in having a gifted child in public school, and not all public schools are terrible, just some.
Also, if there is a good private school in your area, go ahead and apply. Most private schools have scholarships and would love to have a gifted child from a good family.

Re: Frustrated
Hey, have you checked out this Christian school? I cannot believe how low the tuition is, at least compared to what we pay down here.http://www.ccsmb.com/index.htm
This looks really cool, too. And it is Bible based.

I didn't look all over their websites, but I bet they have scholarships or tuition assistance programs.
