Baby take home outfit!

Well, the hubby and I had a cute little onesie outfit picked out for Jerren...welllllll I was doing my daily reading and this is what I found

Another bag should have everything that your newborn will need after he or she is born, such as:

  • A going-home outfit for baby!
  • A few newborn-size diapers.
  • Undershirts that are not onesies -- your baby will not be able to wear onesies until their belly button scab falls off.
  • Any blankets you want to have there for baby.

I am a noob at this baby stuff! I didn't think babies couldn't wear onesies until the belly thing fell off...is that true?

If not I gotta go pack a new take home outfit.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Both my babies wore onesies from the get-go, and it was fine. They fell out right on schedule.

I didn't use anything I brought with me for the baby except the going home outfit. The hospital gave me EVERYTHING!

They can wear onesies. Mine did. Mine wore both kinds.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Yea I heard the hospital supplies most the stuff for ya! I just have a couple of outfits of his packed, just in case he doesn't fit in one, I have 2 baby blankets a few rags, a sleepy outfit ( which I don't think I will need) and I just need to pack my next day outfit and some snacks and I am good.

What else did you ladies pack?

Sweet ok I was worried because we have A LOT of onesies and I didn't want to get more baby clothes. Thanks ladies

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Things I didn't pack the first time that I did the second time:

Chapstick and lotion hospitals are very dry especially at night when you're trying to sleep. A blowdryer for your hair. My own pillow in which I didn't place on the bed until after baby came.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

All mine wore onsies. Just... especially for the first day or so.. the purple stuff the put on the cord can come off on the onsie, so.. either put a little gauze pad over it and it will be fine.

Things I packed. Hmm.. my own lotion and chapstick like Karen. Books, Magazines, puzzle books. Address book to make those calls. My own gown to wear after baby came. My own pillow. My own wash cloths. a little bit of makeup for those pictures. sweats to go home in. MP3 player. DVDs ( our rooms have DVD players)

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Ok I will be an odd man out. I only took the bare necessitites to the hospital. I didn't care what I looked like - I just gave birth - people can deal with it

As far as onesies my first did not wear one home - but that was cause I let grandpa pick out the outfit and since it was August she had a little dress & bloomers.

Personally, I like to wait to put onsies on them until the cord falls off cause I feel bad for it to be rubbing on the clothes. But its not a necessity - to me its really no different than putting a sleeper on them.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

I have a lot of allergies, so I brought all my own grooming products inlcuding soap, shampoo, carmex, deodorant, etc. I had c-sections so I was in there three days each time. The deodorant was a must. You might want to bring slippers or a robe. The hospital can be cold when you are walking around. Some women bring pjs. Since I had c-sections which can be messy, I just wore their gowns and used all their stuff. Also bring your make up! Your family will be taking lots of pics of you and the baby.

If there is any pampering thing that makes you feel nice, I would bring it. I didn't feel that nice after having babies, so having my own shampoo and soap was nice.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Yup your own shampoo and soap. Sounds silly but I'm a big baby about staying overnight and get all teary eyed when he leaves at night. So anything that smells like home is a must for me. And something I told my SIL when she had Blake recently that no one told me......your own pads....not those big bulky things they give you at the hospital!

I wore their gowns because I'm a heavy bleeder(tmi, I know) and figured why ruin my own. I'm talking the first 5-6 times I stand up, they have to clean it up until the point they gave me meds to stop it....both times!

Re: Baby take home outfit!

I brought 2 onesies, a going home outfit and light wieght receiving blanket for Drew (August) and 2 heavier blankets for Ally (January). For me, personal hygiene stuff and a robe and loose clothes to come home in. Plus my CD's and player. books, phone list and a roll of quarters for the pay phone (no one had cells back then!).

Re: Baby take home outfit!

WOW, thanks ladies!

Very helpful info!

So I am thinking about bringing my own blanket (my mom made me some cute ones) for when I am cold. Def some makeup because I don't wanna scare people LOL, hubby is bringing one of our laptops and movies or just our mini portable dvd players. Gonna take an Ipod and of course snacks.. YUMMY!

Very good, once I get home I will have to write some more stuff down to pack

Re: Baby take home outfit!

I took way to much stuff the first time and then called in what I wantd the second time I wore pjs (w/ my 2 c-sections). With Molly I got the h*ll out of the hospital asap. I gave birth to her stayed over night b/c they made me and then left first thing in the morning. With the boys I had c-sections so I had 48 hour mandatory admits. I milked it with Noah ;-) Button up pjs b/c I was breast feeding worked for me. I used the hospital pumps right from the beginning to help stimulate my supply. They gave me everything I needed. I did bring lotion, my own shampoo, deoderant, hair products, stuff like that. I couple of magazines maybe but you really don't have time to relax I found. I had visitors and was nursing and was sleeping and found it hard to concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes at a time. Oh, if you're nursing--Lasinoh nipple ointment!!!

Re: Baby take home outfit!

I'll be truthful and say I never had a chance to read or look at the magazines. I either had someone in and out all the time, I was holding the baby or I was sleeping. I never packed that stuff.
And yes take your cell. I know when I had Kel we still weren't allowed to have them in the hospital all the time. My SIL just gave birth at a big women's hospital in Pittsburgh(at Magee's) and she was allowed to use her cell as much as she wanted. Within a half hour after giving birth, we were sending pics to her friends on her phone for her.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Mine both wore onesies. Emily was born in January, and her outfit was a fleece top and bottom with a matching onesie underneath it.
Travis's was a onesie with a pair of pants.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

As far as what I took to the hospital, I don't think I even took make up. I took clothes to wear home, a nightgown or two, some panties, a bathrobe, slippers, and toiletries and my hairdryer and the second time around I even remembered to pack a brush! With Emily, I forgot to pack a brush.

Re: Baby take home outfit!

Oh and yes, in most hospitals you can use your cell now.
