WHITTIER, Calif. – The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week has six other children and never expected to have eight more when she took fertility treatment, her mother said.

So the mother got fertility treatments as a single mom of six children who all live with her parents? I hope there is a dad involved her at least paying child support. Not to be mean, but does she have insurance or is she on Medicaid?

Wow. If she already had twins, why did she take fertility medicines? With six kids, it's obvious she has no problems getting pregnant.

On top of her being a single mom, The Early Show was reporting that the reason she is living with her parents is because she had filied bankrupsy and lost her house before she started the treatments.

You know what, if she can handle it, great! Personally, I think the woman is insane to have fertility when she already has 6, but it's her decision. And her dad sounds happy aboput it and he and her mom are the ones helping out. I'm just happy to hear those babies are doing so well. Only 1 is still on oxygen!

Let me get this straight, she's a bankrupt single mom living with her parents and has 6 children aged 7 and younger, apparently no man in her life helping to pay for any of this AND somehow she can afford fertility treatments which many insurance companies don't cover? But she can't pay her bills so she has to declare bankruptcy?

I think this woman is totally nuts and I hope she isn't on public assistance. The medical bills alone from now until they get out of the hospital are going to be prohibitive. Let alone for all the specialized care they will need for the rest of their lives. I am not saying they should not be well cared for now they are here. But good grief, get some therapy, adopt a puppy, use some common sense, if you already have six kids and you're so broke your parents are paying your way, maybe it's not the best idea to head off to a fertility clinic and get eight more implanted. I mean the natural way is one thing...

I hope she has private insurance, because that is going to be one whopping big hospital bill for Medicaid (aka the American taxpayer). If her parents are willing to pay for all this, then more power to them. But the time has come to put their feet down. Fourteen children is enough for anyone. She should be perfectly satisfied with her family size now.

Sometimes I wish the news would focus on the best families not just the strangest.
