LOS ANGELES – The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week conceived all 14 of her children through in vitro fertilization, is not married and has been obsessed with having children since she was a teenager, her mother said.

I'm sure they'll find out. His or her medical license may be taken.

Most of these stories you read about mulitple births due to infertility treatments are married couples with only one child or none. I understand where they are coming from, because this is a last ditch effort for them to have even one child together.

Someone should have done some mental health screening on this woman prior to this. I've known several adoptive parents who had had to go through mental health screening. I don't see how this is different when the person is coming up on baby #7 by IVF. Besides, where is she getting the money? I understand IVF is very expensive.

I think that dr who did the invitro should have to help support them rather than the system....i mean heck who in their right mind would do invitro on someone with so many kids already....knowing that there is no man in her life. She is a single woman who already had 6 kids.......the dr I would think has less than appropriate morals

I read in another article one of the older boys has autism. I have one child who is mildly on the spectrum and another with SPD or SID (same thing new names). It has been through the roof expensive and my kids aren't that bad off! One child with autism is more work than three without any physical or mental or emotional problems. I tell ya, even one kid with autism can take everything you've got emotionally, financially, spiritually, physically and in every other kind of way. Let alone eight babies who all probably have special needs. It took 46 doctors just to attend to that hoard. What about all the other mothers who gave birth that day and their babies? Did they bring in more doctors to help care for all those babies, or did they just have to take a back seat because they were "only" singles? If I were a mom giving birth at the same time as this woman, I would have been ticked if I got ignored to the media circus family could get everything.

Sorry, but this woman should be evaluated and possibly have these babies taken away. I seriously don't see how she can raise and support 14 children all by herself.

YES!! I agree!! As I was reading articles about this woman being obsessed with having children (in an irresponsible way...single and lots of debt..with already 6 children) it made me think about people who are obsessed with hoarding animals. I know children and animals are completely different but the same kind of obsession is similar.

I feel so sorry for the grandmother and completely agree with her in that her daughter needs psychological help and, in my opinion, needs her tubes tied.

This morning they announced that she is demanding a carrer in TV as a Child Development Expert!! She is single and her parents bought the house that she lives in. I guess they went bankrupt a short time after they bought her house.

I agree that these kids should be taken away. She can't possibly raise 14 kids on her own!!

Frankly, I do not want her advice. She hasn't even taken those babies home yet. What does she know that I don't or can't learn from an expert with a proven track record?
