Little Brother - oh hell NO, shouldn't be allowed

a new low for C4(An English TV channel) : Violence and bullying as children fend for themselves.

Channel 4 last night stood accused of exploiting children for ratings.
Charities said the broadcaster had hit a new low with a Big Brother-style reality show for youngsters as young as eight.
The four-part series Boys and Girls Alone shows children repeatedly sobbing and begging to be allowed to go home after being left to fend for themselves for a fortnight (two weeks)

If you or I left children aged 8 - 12 yrs old alone for 2 weeks we would, rightly, be accused of child abuse, child endanerment and child abandonment, if tv producers and the kids parents preced to do exactly the same thing, but 'keep on eye on them" via remote video feed it's OK? they are allowing the bullying, the smoking(???and who provided her with the cigarettes) the violence to carry on and they are just sitting around watching it, and then refusing to allow the children to leave even after the children have begged and screamed and cried to go home.

this whole thing sickens me, the parents should not get the children back and the TV station should have to pay for all of the councelling these children are going to need for however long those children need it

You have GOT to be fracking kidding me!?! What kind of parents allow their children to take part in something like this? The producers, the TV stations and every single one of those parents should be rounded up and beaten! Then throw their stupid a$$es in jail for what they have done to those poor kids! Where the he!! is Social Services?!

If I wasn't feeling so bad, I would be as outraged as you all are. I agree with both of you.

Re: Little Brother - oh hell NO, shouldn't be allowed

It is illegal to leave children that young alone even for a few hours. I would never have agreed to that in the first place. 8 year olds (second graders) are not expected to be able to take care of themselves in any modernized culture I know of. This show only shows that guidance is manditory.

If they wanted to test how ready kids are for life outside the home, at least pick teenagers over 14. It is not unreasonable to expect 15 year olds and above to know how to make simple meals, wash clothes, etc. I would never expect or trust an 8 year old to cook alone.

Heck, I wouldn't put myself in this situation, let alone my kids. on everyone involved! If they had a lick of common sense they would know better. I hope they don't try bringing this to the US or I, for one, am calling social services. Even an 11 or 12 year old child is still a child and requiring parental care most of the time.

Drew is 14 and I wouldn't let him do this! Let alone kids Ally's age!

Both of my older children could (almost) fit into this age range and it sickens me to think of them alone in this situation.

This is just wrong on so many levels. Shame on the parents for letting the kids do it, and shame on the people making it. And especially shame on the people who WATCH it!
