We're wanting to take down the wallpaper in our bathroom and repaint, but I'm having a hard time picking a color... we do know that we don't want it to be blue...

If you have any pics that would be great too!!

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

I don't have any pictures of mine yet because it is a work in progress. My husband and I are outdoors ppl so I decorated my bathroom in a camping theme.

We painted the walls in a light brown (dirt looking) color that matched a shower curtain I found. From the shower curtain I took pictures of the leves, pine cones, fishing hooks, and twigs and put them into microsoft word and then printed them out onto sticker paper. That is all the farther I have gottin so far.

But what I am doing with the stickers is the twig stickers I am putting them in a double stright line around my bathroom. Like this:

Then painting in between that a darker shade of brown, then putting the pine cone, fishing hooks, etc. stickers on the darker brown to make a boarder. Like this:

leaf fishing hook pinecone etc.

I mean I know not everyone is outdoorsy, but we like it and it will be different, surly noone else around us will have a bathroom like ours lol.

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

Great idea Stacy! Heck, if you guys like it, who cares what anyone else thinks!

As for paint color, alot depends on the size and configuration of your bathroom. Smaller baths need light colors to make them appear largers. Dark colors can make rooms seem small and cramped. Personally, I like yellow, beige or very light colors. Pick a central color and decorate around that. If you use a neutral (like the beige), then accessorizing is EASY! I'm doing that with yellow. Using blue accents (cause my bath is small) in the shower curtain, towels and a trim at the top of the wall, That's it.

If you look at some of the older posts, you wll find tons of ideas. There should also be a few articles I wrote on the site as well. Remember, BU isn't just the forums! I'll see if I can find any of the articles for ya!

Looks like alot of the older articles are gone. I'll search my old computer and see what I can find.

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

Yeah we definately like it, we get comments from our friends all the time about when we are going to be actually done with it so they can see the finished product. My mom was funny when I was telling her about it she says "It will be like peeing in the woods in your bathroom" I told her not so much, been there lol.

Brenda, when we first started it Shane wanted to do a dark color of brown in our bathroom and I was considering it until I had read something you had wrote that was talking about the darker colors making rooms look smaller. My bathroom is like a little bigger then a bathroom you will find on a RV/Camper lol. So we looked for a long time tryin to find just the right color we were about to give up until we found a color a little darker then beige and a little lighter then dirt.

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

I always seem to choose green for my bathroom it's so easy to match with. I'm partial to like the seafoam or ocean colors for the bath as well. I don't like dark colors for the bath however a friend of mine did theirs in like slate bluish/grey and white trim and it looks awesome!!!

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

Sounds like you picked a good neutral color!

Yeah, my toilet and tub area is so small, I can't close the door when I sit!

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

My bathrooms walls are white (wish I could paint) but one bath is done in pale green and pink (not very me) and the other is shades of green and beige.

I'd love to do a very pale aqua blue and then get chocolate brown accessories.

Re: Suggestions for painting a bathroom?

Our bathroom is large and we painted it a dark green. I think it's called asparagus or something like that.
Travis's room is painted Latte, which is a Duron color, I think. It's a fairly neutral color, but I love it. It's not dark, but it's not really light either. It's warm but not overpowering. I want to do the bathroom that Emily and Travis share in that color and do a jungle animal theme in there for them.
