NEED HELP!! Interior decorating ideas! STAT!

Ok girls, I need your help. I am a decorating nightmare. Really, I am. (Admitting it is the first step! ) I am more of the Basic tones/decorating kind of girl.

Ok.... here's my dilemma. We are going to try to sell our house. However, We need to update a few things to help raise our value, but we don't want to sink a huge bunch of money into it. We are going to minimally paint and professionally clean all of the carpets. However, I would rather tear up the carpeting in the mudroom, kitchen, dining room and living room and replace it with something nice but not super expensive.

Any great ideas???? Please? Thanks girls!

I already answered on Facebook, but I'll do it here too. Replace dated lighting and paint neutral colors (don't leave everything white). Declutter and watch Designed to Sell on HGTV.

Is that cheap, fake hardwood flooring expensive? I know several people who have it and said it looks nice, also, it would be loads cheaper than real hardwood floors.

Here is what I would suggest: For the flooring situation I would use pergo flooring. I've watched a lot of HGTV and it seems that a lot of homes have either real hardwood floors or Pergo. However, in the following link it does suggest putting new carpet in and says it is the most cost effective.

Think neutral colors. Decluttering. Staging.

The potential buyers will want to walk into the house and be able to visualize their stuff in there. A nice aroma, such as chocolate chip cookies, is a plus too during open house.

I have a floating laminate "wood" floor and it's great. I think all the update suggestions are correct.

My girlfriend hired someone to come in and help and the most important piece of advice given was staging!

People want to be able to envision and can't do that through clutter. Set the table, place a center piece. Pretend you're having a party, clear the place out and stage it properly. Lighting is also important, clear out the floors of the closets. Place mirrors where you think space appears to be small.

There is a place called dyemasters that dye carpets...pretty neat

My parents put in Stone tile in their house and it wasn't that expensive.. I think the total was about 1500 for about 3200 Square Feet. They hired some guy to do it and the guy got it done with in days.

man if you where here, I could soooo hook you up with some home people! My friend owns a CO. that does house work and for a very good price.

THanks for the great ideas!!!! I am thinking that I can probably get started looking at flooring and maybe even change out light fixtures this weekend. Anyone have any favorite looks?

I LOVE HGTV!! I'm even going to their website for ideas.

Keep the ideas coming! LOVE them!

Take down any mini-blinds and let in as much light as possible. Also, smell is a huge thing when selling a house ... freshen, freshen, freshen! ... especially if you have any pets ... but don't over-do it with heavy scented products.

Yes - if you have heavily scented things, people wonder if there's a problem you're covering up (mold, mildew, etc).

I would also suggest NOT putting Pergo in the kitchen. I had a friend who did that, and the first time her dishwasher overflowed, she had to replace ALL the flooring in the kitchen, dining room, etc. Water and Pergo don't mix. I wouldn't put it anywhere that has a potential of getting wet. And a potential buyer might look at it that way, too.

Sweet! Thanks! Keep the ideas coming!! LOVE THEM!!
We are probably going to call the people that put our carpet in the addition & have them help us figure out something nice but economical to fix our issues. They are a Mom & Pop place that really had decent prices.

Judy... I had heard that... no pergo in areas with water. Bad news.

Oh, another great show I saw for ideas.... The UNSELLABLES (I think was the name) on HGTV. Great ideas.

Re: NEED HELP!! Interior decorating ideas! STAT!

Let's see what else... Did I already mention updated lightning? They say bathrooms and kitchens sell houses, so focus on those rooms. Do you have tile in the bathrooms? Maybe you should post pics.
