Is it possible? I just can't afford one and it's been over six years since I left BH. He even once filed papers, I counter-filed and then nothing since.

Re: Common Law Divorce?

You would have to ask a lawyer. Have you talked to legal aid?

When I last did, I was told that I no longer qualify for their services. I do plan on trying again; things have changed since then.

Do you have a university law school in your area? Sometimes they will give free legal advice for practice for their students.

Re: Common Law Divorce?

In NY there is no thing as common law any more. You can file yourself. Staples has software for the legal papers but I know in NY its still over 300 to file the papers.

Re: Common Law Divorce?

Oh, ex-to-be and I are legally married. Have been for just over 12 years now. We jsut haven't been under the same roof since Nov 7, 2002 and I haven't had any correspondence since summer 2003 other than the divorce papers being delivered by USPS.
