Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

Thread Starter
I was listening to the news this morning about how many jobs are suppose to be created that will be related to fixing roads and bridges. Won't people who go for those jobs have to have special skills to get those jobs?

Yeah, I'm not sure how this stimulus plan is all going to work out.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

I see they already broke ground on a new bridge in Jefferson City?, your state capital at any rate, today, Cheryl. It sounds like it was about to fall down. Construction workers are out of work, too. At least here, construction pays well. So they'll be going out to eat, shopping, buying cars, etc. The money will get spread around. I had hoped my state would finish the interstate in my area. Sadly, no. The hogs down south will be keeping all the construction money for themselves.

I am interested in hearing more about these construction projects. I didn't really like this stimulus. It ended up so far from what Obama originially wanted. Hopefully, it will do the trick, because the alternative is another Great Depression. JMHO, that would not be fun.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

But if they are behind on their bills from being laid off then no they won't be out stimulating the economy. They will spend how long trying to get back on their feet so they CAN go out to eat in the future. Frankly 400.00 would pay my nat. gas bill for a month and a half this winter. That isn't high--my FIL paid 1000 for fuel that month that it was below 0 constantly. That's a big catch up for people that lost their job--and no the state wasn't there to help all these people that needed it but they were there to help those who didn't need it. 400.00 isn't really going to do a lot for those people. 13.00 doesn't even pay for my husband's coffee/donut store stops a week.

Uggh...I can't even talk about it this early in the morning....lol

Lenora, that's on a totally other subject. Other parts of the stimulus. This is simply the personal stimulus for the working adult that will get a gigantic tax break. I'm thinking that out of a 40 hr work week, that's right around a $.33 hr pay raise. Great there's extra money, but the purpose they meant it for will be totally lost!
Just give us the $400/pp and let those that need pay down their bills and catch up so MAYBE it will help them get ahead so they can spend a little more freely.
Exactly. If they gave a lump sum people could knock down or eliminate a bill or two. With less bills glaring at them, people might be more willing to spend. I think the key to getting people to spend is to reduce the stress and anxiety. What better way then to let them knock out at least 1 bill in one swoop? But, I'm not a politician, so what do I know?

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

Everything out here is computerized for hospitals and our docs. It has been like that for yeas so it's running smothly now. My docs carry computers wih them and they show the kids growth charts right away, immun. records, etc. My docs can look up med interactions, etc. But the security sucks. My niece does transcriptioning and she has access to EVERYONE'S records in the hospital system and since docors are sffliated ith hospitals...do the math.

As fas as the stimulus...I hate it. If I have to have something, give me a lump sum. I'd rather no one get anything. I don't want my kids paying fo this for the next God knows how many years. It's a complete disaster IMO.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

I like it, too, Abby. At first, it was a really rough transistion at the VA, but now it is so nice. I don't have to remind my dr what medication I am on. Plus before, the VA was constantly loosing my records. And I love, love, love doing my presciption refills online. A couple of weeks before my meds run out, I just order them online and get them in the mail a couple days later.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

Don't get me wrong, I am not nuts about the stimulus. I was hoping there would be a lot more workfare and a lot less welfare. It didn't work out that way. Most people in my state don't earn $1,200 a month. So why get off unemployment when it pays better than most jobs and there's no taxes taken out? I don't see this extremely long extension of umemployment being a good thing for my state. I see people sucking it in as long as possible and making no effort to get a job, go back to school or do anything more useful than watching tv.

The kids' ped office is computerized as well, I think it has been since last year or so. It was fun watching the Drs having to type everything in, but now it's no big deal.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

The VA here in Houston was computerized 3 years ago - and they are STILL fighting with it. The problem (per Rick whe is the one who has to set this crap up) is 1) they aren't training the personnel correctly, 2) instead of doing it all at once and getting it over and done with, they have been piece mealing it so they aren't slammed with the expense all at once. Problem with that is by the time they get the last of the stuff done (sometime this year) the stuff they first put in is obsolete and incompatible with the NEW stuff and 3) the dip****s is Washington have NO IDEA what they are dealing with. Not one of them has ever worked in one of the VA hospitals and they have no computer backgrounds, yet they are the ones making all the decisions. Another one for our government! NOT!

I fail to see how ANY of this is going to help the economy.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

Except for the construction projects, I don't see how it will either, Brenda, but I hope that it will for all of our sakes. I was hoping to see more programs like the alphabet agencies from the '30s, but sadly, I am not seeing that. I was hoping to see more people being put back to work not being paid not to work. Where's the incentive to do well at your job when you could just get fired and do nothing for a year, still get paid and not pay any taxes? We shall see. I really hate the part about bailing out banks.

Having to deal with outpatient computerized charting is completely different from inpatient computerized charting. My MD's office uses EPIC and it's great for what they need.... having them send the scripts directly and not having to waste time finding charts is awesome.

However, from a practitioner's point-of-view, this is going to be a living NIGHTMARE. Why? Because we have never computer charted in the CCU. I am a superuser and have no idea how I am going to teach this system because it is NOT user friendly and it is very confusing even for computer savvy people. We are not using the EPIC system, which seems easier, but I don't know if they have the inpatient capabilities.

Additionally, I am working with people who don't deal well with procedural changes. Nuff said......

With the security issues, I totally understand. However, with the HIPAA restricitions and privacy policies, it is being kept in check.

Re: Stimulus Bill~~More money for the working class!!!

Oh I hear ya, Kim. I don't work in a hospital but my step grandma in law does and boy did she complain when they made the switch. It involved their days off being filled with computer classes. And if they go down on midnight shifts you have to just deal til someone decides to come in and fix it.
