Having to deal with outpatient computerized charting is completely different from inpatient computerized charting. My MD's office uses EPIC and it's great for what they need.... having them send the scripts directly and not having to waste time finding charts is awesome.
However, from a practitioner's point-of-view, this is going to be a living NIGHTMARE. Why? Because we have never computer charted in the CCU. I am a superuser and have no idea how I am going to teach this system because it is NOT user friendly and it is very confusing even for computer savvy people. We are not using the EPIC system, which seems easier, but I don't know if they have the inpatient capabilities.
Additionally, I am working with people who don't deal well with procedural changes. Nuff said......
With the security issues, I totally understand. However, with the HIPAA restricitions and privacy policies, it is being kept in check.
