Hair Products

What do you ladied use? I am actually starting to put time and effort into my hair now that I know how to style it.

The prob is, when I flip out my layers they look good when I do them at 7am, but by 8am it looks like I have done nothing to my hair, but brushed it.

With me using a flat iron now, it seems like it is drying out and becoming frizzy. It did not do this when my stylist did it. I have not been able to get a hold of her to ask when she used in my hair to get it to stay and look/feel so good. I figured she will reccomend something that like like way out my price range.

What do you ladies use/reccomend?

Re: Hair Products

I have fine hair and don't really flip my hair. I use Suave products (Shampoo and Conditioner).

Jen might be the best person to ask because she works in a hair salon.

Re: Hair Products

Shampoo--I use Graham Webb Thick Infusion, Phyto Phytocitrus, Aussie Cleanse and Mend, and Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight (I rub the shampoo between my hands and then apply it to my scalp, I let the suds run down onto my hair shaft and use that to wash the shaft of my hair)

Conditioner--I use Graham Webb Thick Infusion, Aussie 3 minute miracle, and Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight (I rub the conditioner between my hands and only put conditioner directly on my ends, and then I use a little water to dilute what is left in my hands and I put it on my hair shaft, but never on my roots)

When my hair is wet, I mix a dime sized amount of Bain de Terre straightening balm with a drop of BioSilk Silk Therapy--I don't put this near the roots. I do use a little Matrix volumizing mousse on my roots sometimes.

Once my hair is dry, I spray Chi Iron Gaurd on it before I use the flat iron. This protects your hair from the heat. When my hair was longer and frizzier, I would rub a little Silk therapy on my ends (like a drop or two rubbed on both hands and then run my hands over the ends of my hair) before I flatironed it.
It's really important to use some type of spray before you flatiron your hair because the flatiron is so hot.

To keep your flip in place, get some molding mud/clay or wax--Big Sexy Hair has Control Maniac, when I had the flip I used Nolita molding clay, but I think it's been discontinued, Chi makes some, Sebastian makes molding mud, and lots of other salon brands have their versions. Use it sparingly, but it does help keep your flip in place.

Re: Hair Products

Tammy, the only products you have listed that I even heard of are the Aussie items. Are the others ones found in actual hair salons?

Re: Hair Products

Aussie and Herbal Essences are not salon products. The rest are.
Most of the products I listed (with the exception of Phyto) are sold at Target and some are sold at WalMart. I believe Rite Aid/CVS/Walgreen's also sell some salon brands.
Phyto is high end ($22 or more) per bottle, and so you'd have to find a high end salon that sells it or purchase it online.
Also, if you have an Ulta in your area, all of these products (except for Phyto) are sold there.

Re: Hair Products

I don't use a single hair product other than Tresemme Shampoo/conditioner and hairspray. My trick is to seal the hair shaft with hot rollers instead of straight iron. The straight iron drys my ends out. The Instant Heat Hot Large roller provides a flip and then when I want curl I use the medium. Thats it.

I have very thick course hair no lie it's like wirey horse hair. I won't curl to save my life! Just a side note, not sure of your hair type.

I use Biolage.

Re: Hair Products

I use the cheap Suave version of Humectress shampoo and conditioner. I have thick, corse, wavy hair.

Re: Hair Products

It's probably due to your flat iron. The cheap ones are TERRIBLE for your hair! I recommend a Chi but if you can't afford one (they are $100+) then Target has some decent ionic/ceramic flat irons for around $70. Also use a flat iron guard. Chi has one and several cheaper versions are out as well. But, if you are out then pomade will work in a pinch but don't use too much cuz it will make your hair look slimey!
Try Redkin's root booster foam too-I can't live without it! Some products are just worth their weight in gold. And honestly, they last for a really long time so the investment is worth it!
Ps-don't use a crapload of hairspray-it just weighs your hair down.

Re: Hair Products

I go to a really high end salon and my stylish siad the Chi is good but any ceramic that reaches that high of a temp (and has temp controls is a plus). The Chi just happens to be a popular name--which I also have ;-)

I've tried all kinds of stuff. I like the Bed Head products. I also like Fructris by Garnier from the grocery store. I don't use a straightening iron much at all. Mine is pretty short now so I can get away with a natural round brush to straighten. I either wear it straight or messy. Usually messy. Then after I blowdry I put pomade in it for extra shaping and some more shine. Just a bit though.

Re: Hair Products

My flat iron is a Chi, and I love it. It works so much better than the Revlon one (I think that was the brand) that I had before. My hair is not nearly as curly now that I have cut it short. But it tends to get frizzy and poofy still.

Re: Hair Products

Oh, and Abby, I like the Fructis products, too. They have a deep conditioner that works really well. I also like the Bed Head products. Self Absorbed by Bed Head is a good moisturizing shampoo and a conditioner that are not too heavy.

Re: Hair Products

As soon as I towel dry my hair I use either Moroccan Oil or Pure Polish Fisnishing drops by Eufora to help seal in some moisture before even blow drying. I was shocked to learn that you can actually add OIL products to your hair and they do not make it greasy or anything. I'm addicted to them now. Oh, and the main reason I started using them is because it speeds up the blow drying time.
I use Illuminating Shine Mist by Eufora as a protectant from the flat iron (I got rid of my Chi for a Croc because it has temperature control and I just LOVE it!). WHen I flip my hair out a bit at the bottom and am not looking for board straight hair, I add some type of balm (my favorite is Texturizing wax by Eufora). A teeny tiny little bit of that goes a LONG way.
And for a hair spray, I just use Finishing Spray by Aquage. Its super light weight but still keeps my hair just like I want it.

Re: Hair Products

I personally don't like the oil products. I use a chi as well as someone else on this forum commented. The chi is amazing.. I haven't found a better straightener. There is this one product by american crew, its a type of wax & there is a fibre. My husband uses the fibre but if you'd like to create a funky hair style, or even a style that requires a lot of control, American Crew products are great.
I like the all-natural look nowadays. When I get out of the shower, I just blowdry my hair and sometimes use a flat iron.. no product. I feel that this natural style is really coming in these days.
