While we are on the subject......

Currently, I am looking for a teaching plan for my son, who is almost 3 and has autism. I currently have OT and Speech, but after EI drops him at age 3, we will only be able to afford ONE Speech and ONE OT a week, which hits about $800. I do a bunch of his therapy here myself, but I want something additional to challenge him. I am still looking for a school programs to enroll him in, but I want to do something in ADDITION to keep him advancing in his skills. Any ideas?

Re: While we are on the subject......

Do you mean as far as his educational skills or his social skills or his OT type problems? Educationally, you might want to try Leapster or another computer oriented program. My dd loves all things mechanical. She loves educational games or just anything as long as it is on the computer. She loves robots and animated educational toys which she relates to better than people. My OT says many kids with autism share this love of computers and do well with computer (or Leapster) learning.

We actually have a cool school and several leap frog products, so I was just looking for more ideas.

Ry's doctor gave me an author to look up.... now I just have to find the paper she wrote it on!

Re: While we are on the subject......

I usually ask my OT for ideas too. I like to go to Big Lots, Dollar General and the Dollar Tree and see what they have. I have found a lot of cool stuff at those places that dd has enjoyed. My dd really likes puzzles which the dollar stores are perfect for.

Big Lots was carrying Science Time science kits. They were rated for age 8, but we were able to do them with dd anyway. What is Ry's favorite subject? My dd is nuts about science and reading. Barnes and Noble usually has a selection of kids books with activities in the clearance selection.

I have an earlier version of this book:

Usually, I just provide my dd with a wide selection of books, arts and crafts, puzzles, games, etc and she teaches herself. I tried teaching her, but she learns more on her own. She really likes doing things by herself.

Re: While we are on the subject......

I have done several activites in this book:

http://www.amazon.com/1001-Activitie.../dp/0785372083

We got to the point where she was up to the age 8 activities and those were too hard. I got this book at Walden's (Borders now?) on clearance for $3. That's what I mean about findind books of activities on clearance at Borders. You can find cheap workbooks at Dollar General and Dollar Tree as well. Walmart has workbooks, but they cost more.
