Found a dog.. now what?

I was outside and there was this older couple walking their dog and throwing rocks at this little dog. When they walked past, I called it over and it was so sweet, just sat at my feet. Wanted to come in. No idea who he/she belongs to, so I stuck it in my back yard til George gets home

The horry counter animal shelter is closed dut to dystemper... very sweet little dog. Can't afford to keep it, and I am not a dog person anyway. Looks a bit like an Austrailian Cattle dog. No gray.

I opened my gate and he walked right on in and turned around waiting for me to close it. No barking even when the poodles next door barked at him.

Figured George would go around the neighborhood this evening and try to find out where he belongs.

Is another shelter taking animals in while the other is closed? Do you have a dog kennel in your area? Your a good person for taking in the little dog for right now.

Re: Found a dog.. now what?

We had a stray dog follow us home one time, very very nice friendly dog. we let it hang around for about two days thinking it may have had a home and would go home on it's own. Since it didn't leave, we did give it some food and water of course, we called our local animal control and they came out and brought it to the local shelter, which was a no kill shelter, otherwise we wouldn't have went that route. They assured us since it was a very friendly dog it wold most likely be adopted.

Good luck!

Re: Found a dog.. now what?

I would try to put it on Craig's List and see if someone nearby will take it. If I lived nearby I'd help you out and find a home for it. It sounds like a very nice dog! I hope the owners are nearby and take it back or someone will take the dog for you.

Normally, I would have ignored it too, but... those people were being mean to it and it wasn't doing anything but following behind about 50 feet. I was afraid they might actually hit it with a rock.

The Craig's List is a good idea. Sometimes the local paper will run found ads for free. Good luck finding his home! I'm not a dog person either.

Re: Found a dog.. now what?

my x-roomie and I would rescue strays here and then give them away to friends. We even made a myspace page for the dogs we would find but yea you might wanna try craigslist.

Re: Found a dog.. now what?

I can't believe those other people were throwing rocks at him, especially since they had a dog of their own. My friends and I once found a lost dog and we drove it around the neighborhood asking everyone if they knew where he belonged. It didn't take us that long and we actually found his house and owners. Good luck!

Re: Found a dog.. now what?

Have you found who the dog belongs to, yet? Or have you decided to keep it?

Re: Found a dog.. now what?

I forgot to post again, sorry. We put the dog back in the fence and a few hours later he was gone. We didn';t realize our fence had a hole in it on the other side of the house. BUT, we haven't seen him so I am hoping he found his home.
