I am currently working on my personal training certification and drafting certification. I would like to go back to school full time though. I need to get into a career so I can support my family. I am having a very difficult time deciding what field to go into though. I originally was goin into sports medicine before I got married. I also love architecture but my dad is talking me out of that field??? He thinks I should go into nursing or radiology just because its good payin field and stable. I enjoy the medical field but I don't deal well with death, tragedies, or needles. I also thought about goin into teaching- not the best payin job I know but I would have the same time off as my kids. The main reason I have been so indecisive is because I don't want a job where I cannot be a mom to my kids. I am a single mom and they have not dealt with mom goin to work very well. Any advice?

Re: What do you want to be when you grow up?
It really comes down to what you would enjoy doing since you will doing it for awhile espially after going to school for awhile learning HOW to do it. Teaching isn't the best paid career but it certainly is the best career you listed for having kids. You get a weeks vacation every 7-8 weeks and 2+ months off every summer. You also get all of the major holidays off and if you work it right you can even teach right at your kids school (like me ;-) I have a Master's Degree and I work in CT so I get paid pretty decent compared to teachers in ther parts of the country. You just have to research districts. Remember, you are getting paid for 183 days or so of actual classroom work....so $55,000 isn't that bad for 1/2 a year of work. I also have awesome insurance. Of course I work about 12 hours a day, 6 days a week and I do work over the summer (not paid). Everyone that badmouths teachers forgets that. I was at school on Friday from 8 am until 7:30 pm. Just my teacher's opinion. You really have to like it though--it is not easy work.

I agree with Abby 100%. I am a teacher, too, and don't do it unless your heart is there. If you can't handle death or tragedies, I really don't think the medical profession is right for you unless you work for a podiatrist or a dentist or something, and even they deal with cancer and disease.
Why is your dad trying to talk you out of architecture?
I don't know--what do you like, what are you good at?

My dad feels architecture does not have as many openins as the medical field. I love kids and think I would enjoy teaching. I enjoy the medical field just not sure I could handle being a nurse.

Honestly, I was afraid of needles before I got into the medical field, I guess once you are around all the stuff you get kinda use to it.

Re: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I think it depends on the area of the country where you live. I know here in Georgia, jobs in the medical field are not plentiful. They were a couple of years ago, but now even hospitals are laying people off or have hiring freezes. Hospice care and nursing homes are hiring a lot here in this area, but again, hospice care involves death and tragedies, and that is one thing you said you wanted to avoid, which is understandable.
