Dr.'s appt due date changed update

So I just got back from my Dr.'s appointment and I am still not dilated. :-(
However, I am 50% effaced! When did you start dilating after becoming effaced? She (my Dr.) said my cervix is very soft, so I think I would start dilating soon? I told my hubby that I am going to start walking a lot and that I wanted to do you know what a lot b/c I have heard that it helps 'prepare' things. Anyone have any thoughts or experience to share?

My due date did get changed from the 3rd to the 31st of this month. I will be induced on the 31st if little Ava has not made her appearance by then. I am hoping she will emerge on her own but let me tell you, I am SO happy to have a date in sight. I am so ready and I really feel like the baby is ready too, so I don't think that we are going to hang in that long, hope I'm right!

Re: Dr.'s appt due date changed update

Good to hear. It does sound like you wont go until the 31st (you could have her a day early on my B-day? lol jk).

I have come to realize that labor is so different from person to person. My last doctors appt was on April 24 my orignal due date and I was doing absoulty nothing. He was actually saying that I would be two weeks late, and we talked about induction.

Then the next morning my water broke at 8am, went to the Docs office and he said I was about 30% possibly, he was more worried about weather my water actually broke or was losing control over my bladder for w/e reason.

I got to the hospital and he was about 5% off I was at 35%, but only dialated .5cm. That was at 10am. Doc came in about an hour later to check on things said Logan had a bowel movement left and a few mins later came back and we talked about a C-section. He did say that if I wanted to waite and have Logan naturally then I could, but it might be well into the evening before I would even be ready to start pushing with me dialating so slow it seemed.

Of course you already know I did the C-section out of fear that the bowel movment may hurt him. So I'm not sure what direction it would have went if I would have chosen to do the labor and delivery naturally.

But the insight I wanted to give you was I was 35% and only .5cm dialated with the expection of a slow labor and delivery. I hope that helped.

Re: Dr.'s appt due date changed update

It really depends on the person. I have seen ladies here go in in the morning with nothing happening and have the baby in the afternoon. It sounds promising that you will go on your own. It sounds like your body is preparing itself for Ava's big entrance. Hopefully, it won't be much longer now!

Re: Dr.'s appt due date changed update

I wasn't dilated at all and 50% effaced, then I was 1 cm and 50% effaced the next week.

I didn't do to much walking because shin splints are my worse enemy! I did do a lot of you know what for 3 weeks STRAIGHT and NOTHING.... uggg

I hope your labor goes way better then mine ^_^

Just make sure they keep checking to make sure the 31st is the due date, you don't wanna end up like I did and be over due with barely no am.fluid. I guess once you get to 40 weeks and if the baby still isn't here see if they can do an U/S just to make sure everything is ok.

Thanks everyone! Lisa, do you know if your cervix was soft when you were dilated to 50%?

Re: Dr.'s appt due date changed update

I don't think my cervix ever got soft, and I don't know about effacing. I was 1 cm dilated for about a week before my doctor stripped my membranes. My water broke about 48 hours after he did that. I was in labor 17.5 hours and only dilated to about 4.5 cm. And that was after being given the highest dose of pitocin for a few hours. I ended up having an emergency c-section with Emily. Then with Travis, I had a scheduled c-section.
It is different with every woman, and sometimes with each pregnancy.

Re: Dr.'s appt due date changed update

With only one of my pregnancies did I begin to dilate before labor actually started. It was frustrating to go in to an appt. days before I was due only to be told that "nothing" was happening. Every pregnancy and every woman's body is different though.

Why can't there be some magical chart that says if blank symptom occurs you only have 1 week left or something?

Re: Dr.'s appt due date changed update

My cervix was soft ( 50%) 3 weeks before I gave birth. I was never really dilated.
