An eighth-grader was suspended from riding the school bus for three days after being accused of passing gas. The bus driver wrote on a misbehavior form that a 15-year-old teen passing gas on the bus Monday to make the other children laugh, creating a stench so bad that it was difficult to breathe. The bus driver handed the teen the suspension form the next day.

Okay, I understand this was annoying, but really did it deserve harsh punishment? When the average person farts around 14 times a day (yes, I looked it up one day when I was bored), do we really want to make a natural, normal biological act border on criminal? Yes, people have had assualt charges filed against them for farting.

I agree Grace, that was harsh punishment. The bus driver must have been power trippin that day or just looking for an excuse to get him off the bus.

Hope the bus driver doesn't ever have to let one loose on the bus.

But generally for the most part that is a bodily function that can be controlled and held for a bit. I don't think he was holding them in since he was making kids laugh and I bet if he wasn't being the clown then he wouldn't have gotten in trouble. But yes I think the punishment was a bit steep

This punishment is more for the parents than the kid. They are the ones who are going to have to find an alternate way to get him to school. Are parents supposed to send their kids to school with GasX everyday to ensure they don't offend? This is not a new trick. I have been out of high school 25 years now *gasp* and this very same thing happened all the time when I was in kindy nearly 40 years ago.

With the economy so bad and food prices only getting higher, kids are going to be eating more bean dinners. That bus driver better get used to this. Besides, another kid(s) could have contributed the worst offenders.

Steve was telling me about this article last night. He said "Man, if they had done this when I was a kid I would have been expelled!"

I don't care how much he farted, suspending him was wrong. Give him detention if you ust HAVE to punish him. And you can only "fart" so much on purpose. Punishing him for something that is a bodily function is WRONG! Hell, he ought to come to my house when i have a bunch of teenaged boys having a farting contest.

You know, the more I hear about this and think about it, the more pissed I get. I mean, where does it end? Are they going to start giving detention for burping during lunch?
