Help ... my hands are so dry!

I was thinking about going and having my nails done and then realized how bad my hands look. I've always known they were bad but didn't think too much of it until I knew someone else would be looking closely at them.

I know it's my job that does it ... I'm either running a cash register or sorting through boxes & bags of dirty stuff. All of the "bad", which is quite a bit, gets put into these burlap sacks which snag my skin. I wash my hands a million times a day which doesn't help either.
I apply lotion but they are still very dry and my cuticles are cracked and ugly. *sigh*

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Re: Help ... my hands are so dry!

You could try a heavy cream at night with cotton gloves over your hands!

Vaseline will work,a s well. You can also try "soaking" your hands in hot water loaded with lotion. Baby lotion works great for this. I get the cheap brnad at the dollar store and it works great. My cuticle are a disaster and I do this (especially in the winter) to help them. I find that I have to do one hand at a time so I can read or whatever while I'm doing it.

Re: Help ... my hands are so dry!

Since I work in a Dialysis clinic we wash our hands probably every other minute and a half.. I picked up a bottle/tube thing of Gold Bond Ultimate Healing cream and I love it. I also have a tube I think it's Gold Bond and it has CoQ10 or something like that, it works really well..

Vaseline works well as a barrier, too, just remember you need to use a moisturizer, then the vaseline. It helps keep in whatever moisture is in your skin.

Re: Help ... my hands are so dry!

Gold Bond is very good. My MIL uses Burt's Bees cuticle cream and hand cream. I bought her the gift pack that is for hands and it comes with the creams and with gloves. She uses this religiously every night, and I have seen such an improvement in her skin.
I also like the Bath and Body Works "Look Ma, New Hands" stuff. They sell gloves to use with the cream, too.
The key is to use moisturizer all the time and then do the heavy moisturizing with the gloves every night or every morning, but every day.

Make sure that you use warm water when washing your hands, hot isn't good,

Re: Help ... my hands are so dry!

Thanks ladies. I had some of the cotton gloves meant for wearing with lotion and I did that last night. I don't notice much of anything after 1 night but it might help if I keep up with it.

I think consistency is the key. Stick with it and make sure you use some good thick lotion, like hand cream or the gold bond Robyn mentioned.

Re: Help ... my hands are so dry!

You really have to do it every night. Especially in the climate you live in.
