Not enjoying this new phase

Brenna will be 3 in a week and has entered a very unpleasant stage of life. All of a sudden (literally over night!) she's become demanding, aggressive, and VERY whiney!
She's forgotten how to ask nicely for anything ... it's demanded and then when you don't react immediately she becomes a whiney, blubbering mess that you can't even understand. She grabs things from other kids at the daycare and yells in their faces. I honestly don't know what to do with her. I'm not putting up with any of it ... she gets a smack on the butt or plopped down in time out every time ... but it doesn't seem to be getting better.
I just have to keep reminding myself that this is just a phase.

Oh and I can't believe I almost forgot ... She's NOT sleeping! I put her in bed and she gets right back up. Some nights she just plays in her bed and others she cries and attempts to come to my room over and over. Last night she was up until 1:30 am before finally crashing! Mommy is sleepy today.

Re: Not enjoying this new phase

honestly, it sounds like she may be coming down with something. Especially if this just started and she's not sleeping. I instantly know when Emily is coming down with a cold/allergies or whatever just by her attitude. SHe gets whiney and pissy etc and just doesn't act like herself. If Brenna doesn't start sleeping better in the next few days then I would take her in for a check-up just to be sure. If it is a lil 3yr old attitude then I hope it improves for ya-I always tell people that the 'terrible twos' are nothing-it's the 3's that are rough!LOL!
Have a good weekend sweetie!!

Oh yeah 3s are WAY worse than 2s! Ethan isn't as bad as he used to be, but at 4 I"m ready for it to be over!

Re: Not enjoying this new phase

Could she be having "growing pains"? We had that problem with Ally, but she couldn't tell us exactly what was wrong, Her ped diagnosed it. She wasn't sleeping at all (not that she ever slept alot to start with), crying, whining, seemed mad or upset ALL the time. It was becasue she was in constant low level pain. We started giving her a dose of children's Tylenol (per the ped) about 30 minutes before bedtime and continured for almost a month to get her throught he "growing" phase. After that, no problems.

Re: Not enjoying this new phase

Everyone always warned me about the "terrible twos." With all 3 of my children I believe it really was the "terrible threes!" I think with 3 year olds you not only get the temper tantrums, but attitude as a bonus! It is a difficult stage to say the least.

Well she's sleeping better at bed time but now naps are getting harder ... she'll play for an hour before crashing IF she does.

The attitude is still there.
