Need wedding gift ideas

My Dad and his long time live in are getting married on Aug. 7th. They are both pretty well off, so they have a lot of stuff. She loves antiques which I can't afford and he loves western movies. But they have tons of knick knacks, relgious items and all other kinds of junk. They are both huge into the Catholic Church and she has mentioned some religious stuff her one of her daughter's gave her that she really loves. I have a problem here, because a) I'm not Catholic and am not sure what qualifies as super cool to a Catholic, and b) I am no where near as well off as her dds to buy some expensive sentimental Catholic thing. They own tons of movies. I have no idea what to get them. I would like to get them something they can keep, but I am I pretty much convinced just to get them another gift card to a restraunt.

Anyone else have a relative over 65 get married? What do you get senior citizens that is romantic or whatever?

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

Wow that is a tough one. Catholics like rosary beads, my mom got some that are made of compacted roses.

My mother is hardcore catholic lol, she got me a cross from Jerusalem that apparently had a stone jesus walked on it is super neat I have always kept it above my front door.

Lets see what I can find.

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

My Dad is a big reader. He doesn't read books, but he reads the paper from cover to cover everyday and he subscribes to several magazines. D doesn't read much, but she watches loads of movies, makes and collects dolls, and has many other hobbies. The problem is they have loads of dolls, newspapers, magazines, and movies. The house they live in "only" has four bedrooms, so they had to give away and auction a lot off stuff to rduce to this point. My dad still says he can barely get down the hallways for stacks of stuff.

The Jersulem stone cross would be perfect, but a little out of my price range. I have about $20 - $30 to spend on this. I looked up on a seniors page what to give senior couples for wedding gifts and they reccommended paying for a mini vacation. Frankly, if I could afford a mini vacation, I would be giving it to my family not my dad who can easily afford his own mini vacation. Why do these sites always come up with gifts that are impossible (coupons to drive seniors around everywhere 1. I can't drive. 2. they live over 800 miles away.) or very expensive.

I also thought about FTDing some flowers. They won't last, but obviously, my dad and his bride really don't have room for stuff that lasts.

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

A donation to a charity that supports a cause you both believe in. Generally the cahrity will send acard saying a donation is made in the person's name but nothing the amount so no one has to know if you donated $5 or $5000.

They both like dogs... I'll have to think about that one.

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

Get them a pretty picture frame. You can write or find a sweet or sentimental poem and print it out on beautiful paper and put that in the frame. That way, they can either keep the poem inside the frame or replace it with a picture of themselves.

I like the stone cross, too, but not so much the crucified Jesus on it.

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

you can get them very nice champagne flutes (or other types of glasses ig you prefer) for $20-$30 at Things Remembered. They will engrave them with names, dates, etc. Something to think about.

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

Someone got a set of glasses for us when we got married (not flutes, which I also got) and I just LOVE them! Plus, if you buy it there, the engraving is free.

Re: Need wedding gift ideas

Since they have three China cabniets worth of dishes, I think I wil just go back to the old reliable restraunt gift cards. I know they enjoy their dates.
