Re: Anyone have a home birth experience?

Nope - I wanted one but was too chicken to do it

With Kate I didn't do it due to Lys who had inhaled fluid on her way out and ended up on Oxygen I was too afraid the same thing would happen.

Peyton I couldn't cause we didn't know the condition of her kidneys and I wanted to be at a hospital if they failed.

Stuart almost was. I had been told if my water broke at home I probably wouldn't make it to the hospital. My water broke at home and he was born 45 minutes later (15 minutes after I got to the hospital)

Re: Anyone have a home birth experience?

Actually its too scary to even think about doing that. It was good when hospital facilities were not so good. But today it happens in remote villages in Africa and Asia.

Re: Anyone have a home birth experience?

And apparently, New York City. I watched Ricki Lake's documentary "The Business of Having a Baby" the other day. She's a big advocate of home births. It is important to know this before you watch the video. I suppose home births are fine for low risk post first time moms as long as they are attended by a midwife. But personally, I am glad I had a regular dr and hospital as things did indeed go very wrong for me with both births and I don't think my children and I would have survived a home birth.

Uh, plenty of people have homebirths now...unassisted ones at that. Do babies die? Yeah sometimes, but babies die in hospital births too. I would have felt totally safe having my kids at home. Everyone has different situations, if you're high risk then you should probably stick with the hospital.

Re: Anyone have a home birth experience?

Nobody was expecting any problems, but baby Sophie was born with spina bifida, and wasn't breathing. After resuscitation at home, Sophie transferred to hospital for surgery.
