Question for Moms of teen and adolesent girls

I am buying Christmas presents for my nieces (ages 14 and 10). They like crafts and have my mil who is very, very crafty to help them. Dh says I can only spend $5 per child on Christmas presents. Since their parents send nothing to my kids, it is a bargain. Dover books has a 60% off sale right now on several craft books. My question is I have found several books on jewelry making and beading and could buy a couple for each girl with the $5 limit. I also found a book on preserving, storing, arranging and drying flowers for 60 cents. I was thinking of sending them these books. I know Elaine's dd loves to craft so maybe she can help me help me out here. I also found a book on shell crafting I thought they might like. They live in Hawaii, so shells are free.

I know one of my nieces will hate whatever I send her because it will not be a teenaged male or an expensive video game, so in her case, life is hard, she'll be getting the same thing the others are. I gave up trying to figure her out or trying to please her long ago.

Well I don't have one in that age group but I think they sound like lovely gifts! You can adopt my girls if your nieces are thankless.

I have a set of nieces and a nephew who have no interest in anything but Wii.

well thats a bummer. I got the girls one last year and they play a few days every few months.... Although I limit how much time they play too. They want to do more crafty things and Lyssie LOVES to make bracelets.

Yep, they don"t read, play games, do crafts, dance, cheerlead, play sports, do any type of art, ride bikes, skateboard or really do anything outside watch tv, eat, and play on the wii. It makes them impossible to shop for.

Correction: They also play Nintendo, PlayStation and Game Boy.

Lenora, all of my neices are crafty and the book you are talking about sound FABULOUS! I have neices ranging from 3 to 23. Now the 23 yo probably wouldn't be interested, but the rest would be. I think the shell one would be perfect!

I think the books sound like a great idea. Haley is into jewelry making and origami but I think the shell book is a neat idea based on where your nieces live.

The books sound awesome! When I was growing up I was very very crafty. I loved making bracelets and making ceramic things, we even have our own kiln!

That is so cool, Lisa! You should post pics of your work.
