Am I crazy for reading to my 23 month old DAUGHTER?

Hey,
The other day I was reading to my daughter and my friend of a long time said that I was crazy. That she didn't know what I was reading that it was pointless do read to them at this age. I think that it is great that she is getting established with literature at her age. It really offended me how stupid and ignorant she could be. I just want my daughter to have the great toddler titles that I had. Like Dr Seuss and the velveteen rabbit. I think that sometimes people forget about the simple things that they can do with their children that will be en graven with them forever. Rather than just putting on a movie and distracting rather than INTERACTING with them.

THanks

Jay

Re: Am I crazy for reading to my 23 month old DAUGHTER?

I have read to both my youngsters since they were able to sit in my lap steady. So from about 4 months old. No it's important skill and the earlier you start the better off they will be and will enjoy it.

Start them "reading" books as young as possible. Even if they are too young to understand and most of the reading involves playing with the board book pages you are still acclimating them to a very important life-skill. Later on in school they will automatically assume that reading is a normal activity, not something the teacher "makes" them do.

Re: Am I crazy for reading to my 23 month old DAUGHTER?

I had been reading to my two year old daughter since she was born and she love it. If you start early in life reading to them they would love reading when they start going to school. They understand everything you read to them since they are born they are intelligent. keep reading to your daughter do not stop. you are doing an excellent started in her life. I am writing this because I used to be a teachers assistant for almost 6 years.
