Comic books for kids

Where can I find comic books that are actually for kids? I wanted to encourage my dd to read by getting her a comic book at the supermarket. Well, they were all super violent. I hunted through several before I found the least violent one of all - Spiderman. She read it and then dh read it. He was a little upset about the amount of sex in it. Honestly, I did not read it before I gave it to her. I just looked for naked people and violence. It didn't have any nudity or people being ripped apart, so I thought it was good. Wrong!

When I was a kid, they put a big BOOM or POW over the violent stuff and you didn't actually see anything. There was certainlly no sex beyond kissing or holding hands.

Now, comic books are obviously for grown men. So where do I find the ones for kids? They didn't have Archie. I understand Archie's gotten married now, so maybe he is too much too.

Gaming, Card or actual Comic book stores will have them. And is they don't carry a full line, the SHOULD have some kind of order sheet that. Does that help?

Re: Comic books for kids

That is the problem with Comic Books today ... they are all so dark and gritty.
It may take some hunting but there is a great series called "Owly" that is for younger children about, you guessed it, an owl. It uses no words at all ... the entire story is done in symbols and pictures ... worth checking out.
Also, there are a few other big names out there that are geared more towards children like Marvel Avengers, The Legion of Super Heros in the 31st century, and The Justice League Unlimited. They all contain some mild violence but what super hero story doesn't.

I did find a Justice League comic book for Kate yesterday. I am glad at least Superman is still a good guy. IE not too violent and not killing people. My kids really love Superman best of all the superheros.
