New Guy in Town!

Thread Starter
Hi All,
I'm sorry about the delay but I would like to introduce myself as the new forum owner and admin at babyuniversity.com.

So - a quick intro. My name is Bob Sheth, and I own a company called MoveForward.com - which owns and administers forums. I have recently taken over ownership of BabyU from Escalate Media. My company is a small - a one man shop - and I own and have experience in running forums for quite a few years. A couple of other sites I am currently running include; www.expatforum.com and www.propertycommunity.com.

On a personal level, I live in London and am happily married to Sarita with a couple of babies of our own; my daughter Ami is aged 4 and son Rohan is aged 2 (pics below).

I have quite a lot of plans for the site - the main one being to try and bring the traffic back to where it was a couple of years ago. I know that's a big statement and possibly a tall order but that's what I'm here to try and do.

I have been busy working on some tech stuff behind the scenes. Things like software upgrades, urgent design changes, optimising the site, moving the server etc. Unfortunately I have broken a few things along the way - such as image displays which are being resolved right now.

I have to admit that I am truly amazed at loyal support and deep emotions that senior members have for babyu. I know this used to be an amazing site when it was founded and run by the original owner. I also know and understand that a site like this lives and dies by its member's support. So I have a huge favour to ask each member here. Please help us to make the site great again by coming back, making posts and networking through the site. The admin & moderating teams are committed to help and I am personally committed to listen to any feedback members have - wether its good or bad. Please post your thoughts on this thread.

Finally, I'm really happy to meet you all and work with you on this fantastic community.

Regards
Bob

Re: New Guy in Town!

Welcome to Baby U, Bob! I have always dreamed of visiting England. I have a degree in English Literature with an emphasis in British Romantic poetry. My second and hopefully, third degree are in American history, for the confused. I understand outside the major cities, after dark England can be very boring.

I am going to take this opportunity to ask you some very touristy questions, have you taken the Jack the Ripper tour? Have you ever seen the Queen? I used to have a subscription to Royalty magazine, so I know they publish her public appearances schedule pretty widely. She's a busy gal for a woman of her years. I imagine it's not too difficult to see her in a parade or waving from a distance.

Anyway, welcome to Baby U!

Pleased to meet you again Grace.
I have only ever lived in London and I think its very similar to New York (having been there once). There's too much to do, not enough time or money to do it all. To answer your questions:

Not yet but I'm currently down with flu (possibly swine) and only need to look in the mirror to see a horrid, scary site.

Yes! It was 25 years ago when I was around 9 years old. She was opening a shopping center (mall) and a group of kids from my school were allowed to present her with a buch of flowers. As a kid, all I remember was waiting for around 100 hours in a crowed, sweaty mall with millions of people and then giving a nice old lady a bunch of flowers. Never seen much of her since - maybe she didn't like the flowers???

Re: New Guy in Town!

Welcome and thank you again for fixing my post! I hope that BBU can be what it once was as well. There's a few of us left that just love to come here and we can all relate. Again, good luck and welcome.

Welcome Bob! Glad to see someone who is enthusiastic at the helm. Let's get this party started and get BBU back to what it used to be.

Oh, and BTW, your kids are darling!

Re: New Guy in Town!

When I subscribed to Royalty, Princess Diana was still alive and a married to Prince
Charles. Everyone was oooing and ahhhing over her, but really it was Princess Anne that was so active. I don't think you can open a nursing home or have a charity meeting in the UK without her showing up. She really is a civic minded person. I'm sure the Queen is not holding the whole flower thing against you. I have a feeling she is more impressed with things that neigh. Perhaps if your school had given her a pony...

Americans are fascinated by Royalty largely because we don't have them.

True - most brits I know go the other way. Just see them as something the state and a modern society could do without and a strain on the public finances.

An American friend of mine runs this royalty forum you might like.

Re: New Guy in Town!

I am not so interested in them now. Prince Andrew got married and that was about the end of it for me. I can see how they would be draining for the taxpayers. They do live like royalty. Perhaps if the Queen operated out of a small trailer the people would like her better.

Great to have you here and I am happy that you are willing to work so hard to get our boards active again. BBU has been a part of my life for a very long time and I will try harder to get the boards moving and to make it the place that it once was. If you need any help just give me a holler!
Thank you for sharing about yourself and your family. Your children are adorable.

Thanks for the welcome Karen and the offer to help. I am truly amazed at how many long standing members have offered to help. Everything is really appreciated. I think the best help all members can offer right now is to keep posting - that's the life blood of any community...

Hi Liz&NicksMom,
I really happy you are baaaaack. Its great to see so many senior members helping to get the site back to its rightful former glory. There's so much positive energy here that I'm getting a real buzz out of working here. The best way for all members to help is to start posting like the good old days are back again.
Thank you,
Bob

Re: New Guy in Town!

Hi Bob! So far so good.... you have already expressed more interest than the last owners of the site. BBU has been part of most of our lives for years, and I know we would all be happy to see it revived. I am cautiously optimistic that we might get our home back....

Hi Heather,
Thanks and its great to see you posting back. Thank you for your time, support and posts - that's what it will take for the BBU revival plan to work.

Re: New Guy in Town!

Hello Bob, as everyone else has expressed so well, we are very glad to see a parent who cares about our "school" and more importantly our home. Over the last 8-9 years we have shared so much of our lives with each other, we are truely an international sisterhood who are more than happy to welcome a male into our ranks, heaven knows we have tried over the years to encourage more males to post (even my DH Black Knight used to post fairly regularly esp if someone had a "what on earth is going thru HIS mind" question LOL ).

I will try very hard to come back more regularly altho you may be sorry, back in my hey day I could easily post 30+ posts a day. Like all habits it is hard to restart them once they are broken but I'm sure it can be done . I may have to ask some of the ladies who have already reaquired the BU habit to email me periodically and tell me to get my butt back to school

And your children are truely gorgeous, your wife must be beautiful if they take after her, altho I'm pretty sure that you must not scare small children when out in public, those children have good DNA from both parents

Thank you Lady Knight,
Its great to have you back home again! I'm looking forward to seeing more of you here. And thanks for the compliments though I'm not sure about my DNA!

Hi Bob-
I am glad to see someone having the site as well as the drive to see it come back. This site has been part of my life for years, and I am thankful for the friendships I have, and continue via BabyU.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know!

And lovely kids, they are adorable!

Re: New Guy in Town!

How are you doing, Bob? I heard Europe just got pounded with the snow storm that just dumped 3 ft in my area. I also heard 80 people have already died from it over there. fortunately, it was much less lethal over here.

Thanks for your message Nikki. The best help I can ask of you is to continue to do what you are doing by visiting and posting on the site. With this help from you and all the other dedicated BabyU'ers I'm sure the site will be more active again.

Oh and congrats on your news too.

Regards
Bob

Hey Grace,
We are all fine. Only had a few inches of snow in London so the kids have been having a great time pitching snowballs at me...
