The great Baby Einstein scam

Of course it was too good to be true.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Disney is offering a refund to buyers of its ubiquitous “Baby Einstein” videos, which did not, as promised, turn babies into wunderkinds. Apparently, all those puppets, bright colors, and songs were what we had feared all along—a mind-numbing way to occupy infants.

I can't believe Disney is letting 1 stinking study be held over their head. Give it a few months and it will be something else.

Re: The great Baby Einstein scam

I have never really liked Baby Einstein, because, well, the stories are boring. I have the books and not everything else. The books are so boring. it's hard to force myself to read them when there are so many more interesting stories out there. I have been very doubting. of the whole every child can be a genius idea. People are different. Even at young ages kids show aptitudes for different things. I don't think it really matters if you use Blue's Clues, Dr. Seuss or Baby Einstein as long as you work with your child and help them to learn the things they need to know for school.

JMO! I would never rely on something from a show or video to educate my children. Certainly would never believe anything advertised to do such a thing. Music and repetition is what works best in my house!

Re: The great Baby Einstein scam

I'm sorry, but if you are relying on videos to make your child brilliant, you have issues.

I have plenty of Baby Einstein things.... Ryan loves the colors and the music. We are learning sign language too (not off of Baby Einstien, but through Speech). We only have them for entertainment. Sometimes Ryan just likes them on for the music while he plays. When they are on, I will ask him questions and make them interactive.

I guess what I am saying that is why blame the product? Blame the lazy parenting. Items such as these are only beneficial if they are made part of a learning program. A kid should never be babysat by a tv...

Anyone who plops their kid in front of a the TV or a video and thinks it is going to make their kid a genius is just nuts!
